Cindy Crawford Shape Your Body Workout (1992)
somewhat out-of-date, but still good
Cindy Crawford is probably the only model out there that doesn't annoy the crap out of me. In this video, instead of constantly showing herself and/or perfectly toned athletic people, a good deal of it takes place in a basement work-out room, where she works out along with us under her instructor, Radu. We see her looking less-than-perfect (yet still beautiful), breaking a sweat, out-of-breath, gulping at her water just the same as we do. As someone who gets PO'd when watching work-out videos where the instructors do every move flawlessly, while I'm fumbling along like a paraplegic walrus, this means a great deal to me.
Radu often counts the moves too fast (I guess he didn't realize that he's not just instructing Cindy in this instance, but all of us), and some of the exercises might be slightly out-of-date (since physical fitness standards are constantly changing). I just adapt the routines to fit what I believe is the current standard. It's the only work-out video I still use, because it remains unpretentious and understandable.
Little Monsters (1989)
awesome kids movie!
I first saw this movie when I was 11 and absolutely loved it. It's funny, cute, and slightly scary (for kids anyway). Howie Mandel was a riot, and the rest of the cast was great too.
A few guidelines though, based on many other users comments: Do not watch this movie if you're not a kid, or are too grown up and mature to endure such a juvenile flick (in other words, if you've forgotten how to have any fun in your life, don't bother watching, and save us all from your complaints).
Vanilla Sky (2001)
interesting, but not original
The only reason I went to see this movie was to see what all the hype was about. While it wasn't as bad as I'd expected, it certainly doesn't deserve all the rave reviews it's gotten.
It starts off interestingly enough. I was confused, but being a fan of the kind of movies that don't just go from point A to point B, I didn't mind this. However, after the first 2 hours I started to get really bored and just wanted it to get to something, some kind of ending.
Once we got to the part where we realize what's been happening, the movie at least began to be somewhat interesting. But the people who've given it acclaim obviously haven't seen many movies. It is by no means original - at least not to those of us who don't just watch romance or car-chase flix. Here's the list of movies that immediately came to mind while I was watching Vanilla Sky: Jacob's Ladder, The Matrix, A.I., 12 Monkeys, What Dreams May Come. By and large, Vanilla Sky ripped off Jacob's Ladder the most - and doesn't even come close to that wonderful film.
I'd also like say that just because Tom Cruise is in a movie doesn't mean it's any good. Critics like to think so, but then again, they also like to kiss a lot of butt.
