Amazingly raw and truthful
This movie just reaffirms my faith in the film-making experience. It was incredible and I had to run out and buy it. I've seen tons of movies as you can maybe see by my voting history but from the very beginning, I was drawn into it and couldn't escape from that world. I was drawn in initially by a friend and the fact that this won an Original Song award at the Oscars.
I didn't even realize until the end that the characters didn't even have names. The DVDs have great commentary tracks providing further information that just makes this picture all the better.
A plot summary doesn't even suffice. It's two people who are both lonely in their own way and need each other so much but were just meant to be friends and came together in a great way at the right time. I like to think the title comes from "Once"...Upon a Time like it's some sort of fairy tale story.
The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008)
Not a reader of the books..
I really have waited to be one of those guys who say "I saw this movie at a sneak preview" as we don't get them very often in Nashville but on this nice Saturday, I was very much into the story as a 27 year old male but I am a constant watcher of films. I would probably put it more in the 13 and under range-it wasn't very scary but did have a few frights in it. The magical creatures were nowhere near to the fear factor as "Lord of the Rings" but a little more so than the ones from "The Chronicles of Narnia".
My favorite part was when I finally realized who the voice of Hogsqueal was and then I wondered why they chose Seth Rogen to do that part because it all made sense in the end with one great scene (spoiler alert?). Freddie Highmore was great and I am quickly becoming a fan and it was nice to see Mary Louise Parker doing her thing as I think she is very underrated.
Go check it out. I'd probably say it's more of one to watch for a matinée than late night for your money's work. It did seem to be maybe even a bit too short so I guess that's positive for the movie, right? "No Country for Old Men" for Oscar Gold
Greatest movie of the year! Pass this over Oscar
I was very disappointed to see LOTR: The Fellowship fall to A Beautiful Mind for Oscar last year and Peter Jackson not winning best director certainly irked me.
This year should be a different story. This is one of the best movies, if not best sequels of all time. I don't want to give away any spoilers but all the CG characters including Gollum, Treebeard and the Nazgul looked incredible. I plan on seeing it again and again. That was the fastest 3 hours of my life. So all you haters out there just stop and enjoy a great movie and a release from reality. Thank God for Tolkien and Peter Jackson. This is all I needed for Christmas this year.
This was one of the funniest movies I have seen in recent memory. Mike Myers is the new king of comedy, Heather Graham shines as the sidekick and Elizabeth Hurley is out of the picture. I wouldn't sell Mini-Me for "one million dollars." Loved it. everyone should go see it!
