Survivor (2000)
One of the few shows I might end up watching
I don't watch that much TV, and when I do enjoy a show it usually dies quickly (Freaks and Geeks, for example). But, here is a show that has captured my interest and might stay alive. Survivor is so much cooler then any game show currently available in the US: Not only do you need intelligence to play, you also need physical strength and social skills. The idea of being stranded on an island has always intrigued me, ever since I first saw Swiss Family Robinson, and I think this show captures the idea as well as a TV show can. Of course the people on the island have access to emergency medical treatment and things like that if they need it, but for the most part they have been totally cut off from civilization. Every week we get to see the struggles of this cut off life, all the while betting with your friends who'll get their butt thrown off next. I really hope that this show survives, because it is 100 times more entertaining then Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and deserves to live.
Kimera (1997)
Very good, but not great for an Anime
Kimera is a fairly good piece of Anime, but a short one (It clocks in at just an hour). Without giving away to much of the plot line, it deals with alien vampires, and the men who love them (really, I kid you not). It also adds an interesting spin on the Roswell "incident". If you're an Anime fan, you will definatly want to check it out. It will probably keep you entertained, although it dosen't measure up to the Anime greats.
Gekijôban Poketto Monsutâ: Myûtsû no Gyakushû (1998)
GREAT movie, BAD ending
The begining of this movie is actually very good, and has (gasp) a plot dealing with deep questions which almost no kids show will. The animation is top of the line, up to par with adult anime. The movie itself is great, with cool production design (Especially Mewtwo's Psi-Suit, which he uses to harness his powers) and a good plot. But the worst part is the last 10 minutes, where everything goes full-of-heart-and-warm. The characters don't suggest "Geez, we shouldn't fight. It goes no where." Instead, they SAY it, in just those words. UG. And then Mewtwo, instead of taking his chance to kill Mew, just sees his wrongs and turns good. Yuck. All in all, this movie would be about a 9, but the end and the little short knock it down to a 7.
Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles (1999)
One of the coolest shows EVER
I'm beside myself on this on. I caught it by luck a couple days ago when I was home sick, and I've been hooked ever since. This show is SO cool!!! The animation is top of the line, second to none. In fact, if you want to get a taste of what the Final Fantasy movie could look like, watch this show. The dialogue is kind of funny in some places, but it is a show for kids and not to be taken completely seriously, but that's about the only thing even remotely wrong. I don't know why, but this show hit me the first time I saw it, and I doubt I'll ever stop watching.
