Rocket Science (2002)
A remarkable history of a remarkable time
Nothing less than a detailed history of our first steps into space, from the earliest pioneers through the Apollo moon landings. Michael Lennick and his team at Foolish Earthling Productions have done it again, delivering a fast-paced, incredibly entertaining look at the day-to-day lives and challenges of the men and women who took us into space. Featuring just about everybody who was involved either behind the scenes or in the spacecraft, Rocket Science takes us back to a time and place filled with triumph, tragedy and near-misses that most of us never knew happened. The excitement of those days will not likely be repeated, and Lennick makes you understand what it must have felt like to be a part of it all. He puts you in the cockpit.
Videodrome: Forging the New Flesh (2004)
Behind the scenes on Cronenberg's horror masterpiece
Found on the new CRITERION DVD of David Cronenberg's VIDEODROME, "Forging The New Flesh" is a darkly comic journey into the film's 1981 - 82 production, focusing on the ground-breaking make-up and visual effects. Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Michael Lennick began his career as a visual effects supervisor, often working with David Cronenberg. VIDEODROME was an early career highlight, and Lennick has assembled some very funny anecdotes from the making of this startling vision. Through personal narrative, generous clips, behind-the-scenes footage and the recollections of make-up maestro Rick Baker and the rest of the effects team, Lennick takes us through the way-too-tight shooting schedule, the many problems and solutions, and the evolution of the flesh TV and other organic visual effects that helped make VIDEODROME the timeless yet prescient classic it remains to this day.
