Maverick (1994)
What a missed opportunity!
Jodie Foster I love (ever since "little girl who lives down the lane")But she has absolutely NO comedy timing and absolutely zero chemistry with Mel (who is tres cute). Story line is OK, but Jodie dear, you should have waited for another dramatic script to be pushed under your door. Someone else suggested Meg Ryan (too smug?) Marisa Tomei? or some fabulous no-body that should have been given a start.
The Castle (1997)
The Funniest Movie I've ever seen!!!
I've read the other reviews and all the Aussie viewers agree that this is the funniest movie ever. I watched it in an almost empty theatre on a wednesday matinee and I laughed so much the whole row of empty seats nearly tipped over (I always thought they were bolted to the floor) Coming from a family of "Trading Post" readers I wept the whole way through this film. To the Americans bewildered at this film - forget Crocodile Dundee and Priscilla, this film is how 90% of this country thinks and talks. And this is what we think is funny.
She's the One (1996)
Not Worth 2 hours of your life.
I couldn't believe this film. I have seen better character development on a postage stamp. That line where the dad tells Mickey that his little brother put himself last in a baseball game so Mickey would look good... yeah right, nothing in the character showed that this was a remote possibility. I have no problem with the acting ability of the cast, in other films they may have been fine, but with this albatross around their necks, they looked like high school amateurs. I want the 2 hours of my life I invested in this drivel back. I haven't felt this gypped since Spiceworld.
The Wiggles Movie (1997)
A bright and breezy musical experience for the under eights.
A bright and breezy musical experience. The Wiggles, number one singing group for pre-schoolers in Australia, sing and dance through a cartoon-like setting. The plot is great for the over fours, but parents who expect under fours to sit for 90 mins will be disappointed. The story is about a magician who wants to win a magic competition and thinks he needs help to do so. Some new songs are included and some old favourites. Definitely lots of "colour and movement". Parents won't suffer either .. it's quite cute to watch.
