Disaster flick with the old TV melodrama story line....that works,
This was a 2 night event that was shown opposite the Finale of the TV Series MASH. Filmed in 1978, the studio decided to shelve it for 5 years. It was also Irwin Allen's last disaster flick for Warner Bros.
The character studies were decent and the flashbacks worked well. Of course the best part of the movie was the disaster, the set, and the after effects. To make the movie work well for you, all one has to do is sit back and imagine "What would I do in such a situation?"
Eve Plumb did a great role for as small as it was. Leslie Nielsen is great at comedy and also as a sleaze-ball.
I truly enjoy watching these old movies and seeing the stars of the time and go back down memory lane. This movie is now available uncut through Warner Bros official site.
Entscheidung in den Wolken (2009)
More romance than disaster-storm flick. Still good though.
The movie is not about a freakish deadly storm - disaster movie. It is more of a romance drama with a Super Cell storm.
PRO: build-up to the romance is good.
The plot is good.
Beautiful country scenes
CON: Synopsis is misleading.
Some over-acting by one of the lead male actors.
Poor English language dubbing.
Watched with my wife while on vacation. We love to chase storms and are trained for it so we get into these types of movies. Disappointed to say the least about NO DISASTER STORM. Enjoyed the romance story though.
Me & You, Us, Forever (2008)
Clean Christian movie with a good lesson about love
I really hate people who rate movies without seeing them and only use their prejudice viewpoints to rate the movies; good or bad.
If you have ever been through a divorce or a really bad break-up, you could possibly really understand what the director went through in his life. This movie is based on his personal experiences in love and life.
The acting was not Oscar worthy by any means, but good enough to make the characters come alive and be believable. The music was great and very romantic. Yes there are many Bible passages stated as well as discussion about God and Jesus Christ, BUT anyone can appreciate the movie if they give it a true chance.
I saw this with my wife on our 19th wedding anniversary during the 5pm Monday time period. The theater patrons who saw this with us were 90% women over the age of 40 and they all seemed to enjoy the movie well. Give the movie a chance and you may be well surprised that you enjoyed it.
Lightning: Fire from the Sky (2001)
Good special effects and a visitor from WKRP!
NOT the best acting, but the special effects were the highlight. Far above normal for these type of movies. John Schneider & Stacy Keach do well in their roles, but as far as acting goes I vote for Gary Sandy's (WKRP In Cincinnati) performance. I just fell in love with his character. His character fit the small town man that you would enjoy drinking coffee with. Science looks like it took a back seat here on logic, but I could be wrong. The ending just seemed too unbelievable and convenient. The stats are correct for the most part as well as advise on being in electric storms. You don't think they used FEDMART in place of WALMART, do you?
Death of a President (2006)
Watch the movie with open mind....forget political party....see where we are today
Review from a Bush supporter. First off this is not anything like Moore's so called movie. This is not anti-Bush or anti-Republican. Actually the comments on Bush go both ways with some in favor of Bush being fantastically stated with love and care from the characters' fondness for Bush. This flick is a look into the possible state of the country in the future if our President was killed. The main problem is it really is too dry, but if you watch History Channel, Discovery Channel, and the others, then you will most likely enjoy it. I would even suggest that High Schools & colleges use this in their Social Studies classes.
The Illusionist (2006)
Where is Edward Norton's Oscar?
Superb acting, photography, directing and editing. Note that this is not even similar to PRESTIGE. Edward Norton pulls off another fantastic performance. Easily one of the top 3 consistent actors in the last 20 years. This is a love story, and a criminal story that you think you have solved within the first 30 minutes, but then the movie shows you more...did I really see and hear what was earlier? The illusions in the movie are fantastic tricks that make you go WOW! My wife & I "marked out" (carny term for believing) for the movie twice and we talked about it after the ending. Great way to spend 2 hours with family and friends enjoying a great mystery movie.
The Departed (2006)
Goodfellas was better
Yes this movie was good, but it was so over-hyped that I felt let down afterward. Great acting by the A list cast and the director did his usual work, but he deserved an Oscar for other better work. Ending did leave you scratching your head, but I believe that was an editor's cut which failed to explain what happens at end. Use you imagination to fill in cut of what was in the letter and box. I did gain new respect for Leonardo's acting. This guy did a bang up job and stole many scenes from his co-workers. Personally I have developed a dislike for Matt's work though. Sometimes I feel he tries too hard and not let his natural ability come through as in the first few years of his career. Wahlberg was so intense in his few scenes but he took the film to an all new level. Great work by all, just bad editing that made the movie jumbled at times.
Superb look at lost history
Great look at a long forgotten true story. Coming from Texas, I grew up with history lessons on this "big name" rancher's life story in elementary school in the late 60's. Too bad they no longer teach it. Yes there are some inaccuracies especially in plane designs, but this is a movie for "bleeping" sakes. Name me one movie that does not have any. Young actors did well as well as the female love interest. I felt she carried her scenes well. Lots of action and drama. I did feel the movie was a tad overlong though. Some of it could have been left out for a tighter story. The soundtrack was a pleasant surprise as well. Over the past few years it seems that the soundtrack had taken a backseat again. Not this time. Very eloquent music that helped pace the movie. I will look for the soundtrack to purchase as well as the movie.
Facing the Giants (2006)
Fantastic Christian family movie
Rated PG due to Christian language. JEEZ, I guess it is better for my kids to see scantly clad bodies (if that), seductive moves, sexual innuendos or hear the now allowed four letter words in children movies. I don't see any difference in a non-believer watching this movie and dealing with the "language" than a Christian setting through 99.9% of all movies made today and listening to their "language." Big budget feel, look, and marketing helps this movie. Alex Kindrek may not get an Oscar for his portrayal, but he can make you believe. The boys who played the football players handled their roles well. The action looked like real Friday Night Lights as well. The message is really, "DO YOU BELIEVE?"
4 star rating by a Christian
Message boards are blazing by Christians touting the movie as fantastic message while many Christians and non-Christians saying the packaging of DVD and advertising of movie was deceptive; even on official website. They are correct in both arguments. As devout Christians, my family was expecting a good UFO movie that would somehow work the Beliefs into the story. We were disappointed. The message is great, but most definitely the deception was there. Some people say the actors are beginners while most Christians will recognize the actors from previous films. Yes they are not the Tom Hanks or Julie Roberts, but they sure beat the Pauley Shores and Paris Hiltons. When it is all said and done, each movie is made with its own purpose/message and for entertainment. Some like it while some don't. I can even tell you that MANY Christians will have a problem with the ultimate message on what UFOs stand for. Outside of hurt beliefs, there is nothing offensive in this movie except the scene with two many drinking beer. Production value, music and sets are great. The message is the problem for most people. If you believe in UFOs or a Christian and are curious about what the latest (15 year) belief by several religious scholars teaches on the matter, check out the movie....otherwise stay away for you will not like this movie.
