A second generation Japanese-American lives in the Pearl Harbour era. The man was born in Los Angeles but attended university in Japan. He returned to the USA and works at a Japanese newspaper. Then the second world war starts. His entire family is deported to a detention centre in California following the imposition of the racist executive order moving Japanese people away from the coasts. He wonders whether he should be an American or a Japanese. He becomes a translator and goes to war.—aghaemi
