Excellent casting

Gabriel Mann did a wonderful job. He also reminds one of a young James Spader. The moment I heard Ilya, it become apparent.... he's Red! Great performance!

Great episode - But me thinks it's a Red Herring (sorry I couldn't resist 😬)

Warning: Spoilers
Excellent episode one of the best in the series that spins us in yet another way. Good acting and an engaging flashbackstory on the origin of Red. However.....

I don't buy it that Ilya took his place. In one of the earlier episodes we see Red with heavy burn scars while he was changing clothes. I can't Imagine that Ilya asked Dr. Köhler to add those as well. As someone else wrote in the review Red has flashbacks of the burning house. I just love these kind of twists. Keep 'em coming!

OMG Brilliant

This has got to be one of my favourite episodes to date. It did answer some questions, but then at the end raised a whole pile more. The casting of Gabriel Mann was inspired. Kudos to the casting team. I will certainly be watching this episode several times to let it all sink in.

Wow

Wow that's quiet overturn from i expected to be.

The writer really have their guffin's mind. They always kept the riddle at the bay, silencing the murmuring and unpatient audiences with all possible twist out there.

I saluted for that. By the end of this show, if really this show must be end somehow, someday, i really gratefull live in an era which had watched the most intriquing TV show, ever! The character are great.

Reddington is the most complete and full of riddle super agent ever created. Lizzy Keen the most boring annoying heroine character ever create. Aram the most goofy yet resourcefull IT person character ever created. Dembe the most silenced baddas sidekick ever created. All character earn my respect.

Finally finding out some things

Warning: Spoilers
Love Gabriel Mann (Revenge) playing the younger man who assumes Reddington's life. He looks a lot like the young James Spader! Coincidence? I think not! Just MHO. Go Red/Ilya!

Amazing

The individual stories from the Blacklist are great, but its true power has always lied within its ability to hold mysteries in its overarching story. The revealing episodes are therefore almost always masterpieces. This one gaves us huge insights in the otherwise extremely convoluted background story of Katarina Rostova, and the roles that several key characters played, including Reddington himself. Even though it will simply be 'a' truth instead of the whole truth, it really brings some closure in the form of answers to questions we've been longing to see.

Being able to do so logically during the main storyline of the season makes this a great cornerstone episode.

Biggest question answered

Wow, this was truly without question, the best episode of the whole series. I'm not sure if they can pull another one like this.

Nice story but...
acatala3 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Nice chapter, nice story, but...

I still think that Dominic is telling a fake story to Liz to give her answers to her questions and keep her away from the real truth: that Reddington was Katarina. fake Why Reddington asks Dominic to know the exact story that he told to Liz? Perhaps to be both coherent on the same story?

Is Ilya Liz's father? The actual Reddington is, DNA analisys told that. Unless Red is Katarina.

Where is Katarina?

Why Ilya keeps being Red after getting his money?

Review chapter T4/8. Why Alexander Kirk spares Red's life? unless Red was Katarina.

Why in T3/9 Reddington remembers/dreams about the assault at the house at Cape May if only Katarina was there? Unless Red was Katarina.

Can It Get Harsher?
Hitchcoc1 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Of course this is the episode that fills in the blanks (although with Reddington we are never totally sure). When Liz meets Katarina's father, he decides enough is enough and tells the tale of a Russian spy, a man named Reddington, and a series of events that explain the foundation os the story (although with Reddington we are never really sure). I won't go into details; only that it is a bumpy ride all the way to America. If there is a problem for me it is that Dembe is gone and Elizabeth has been distanced from Red. He still doesn't trust her. How will things work now? Will there be love in the picture or will they be staring at each other? On the one hand we are fulfilled; on the other, things are cold as ice.

A paranoid's dream
dierregi19 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Wouldn't anybody want to live Katarina's life? Not only she's a wanted traitor, but she slept with three men who all love Liz so very much and all wanted to take care of her.

Besides being at the top of KGB most wanted, Katarina was blacklisted by the Cabal, thus being forced to live her life on the run. As far as criminals go, it's difficult to do better... but wait...

She even managed to concoct a plan with Russian lover, to replace the American lover and steal all his money. After all, Reddington being dead, didn't need it. But why didn't Kate get some plastic surgery herself, like Rusky lover boy?

One may also question the wisdoms of being wanted by the KGB but nevertheless travelling undetected to Moscow and back and conclude that maybe the KGB is not so much of a danger, but still.... think about the thrill of being the most wanted woman of your generation.

This episode so defied logic as to be surrealistically entertaining.

It's too good but my mind tells me not to believe it!
dattaakash-370552 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Before the review, i got a question. If Reddington is dead, then where does the burn marks came from in the imposters body?

I don't know what to say about this episode, after so much hiding and suspense, the truth came out of nowhere. It's good to catch the audience off hand, total surprise. But maybe it would have been better if Reddington said it. Because just before she knew her grandfather, Reddington paid him a visit. So, i can't trust it. But to be honest, the truth is a quite bit frustrating. I mean, once I was so hyped to watch the RAYMOND REDDINGTON guy, but now I know his name, Illy, I thought for sometime maybe this is the best father daughter relationship, but now it's like a step father. It's just man, I never experienced something like this, twist and twist one after one. Like i'm not sure which one is good anymore. Katarina framed the real, reddington is an imposter, elizabeth is , i don't know what she is, ressler is too edgy, maybe the only two good people is ARAM and. NAVABI. It's too damn good man.
