As a soon-to-be teacher this movie was AWESOME to watch. It shows the struggles of the first few years of teaching but how rewarding it is.

Must See For All Pre-Service Teachers

This was an excellent film! As someone that is about to embark on the profession, it gave insight to what this profession entails. It is a great representation of what this life is going to be like and how immersed we will be become as teachers with our students and the rigor that comes with the job. The great underlying message is to never give up. No matter how difficult it is in the beginning don't quit. As Mr. Harchol told us, "It does get better." This is a film I will watch again and probably a few more times after that. It is also an important film for current teachers so they can reflect on how different things are going now as opposed to when their career first started.
Awesome Film !

Perfectly Captured What It Takes To Be A Teacher

I LOVED THIS FILM. This film speaks volumes to the time, effort, and dedication it takes to make your splash in education. I truly wish everyone, parents, students, admin, politicians, etc. would watch this film to understand what teachers go through and all the work they put into to be the best they can be. The main character perfectly captures the stress and frustration of the first few years of being a teacher and trying to find your way, but the movie itself captures the amazing stories of students, teacher relationships with teachers, students, significant others, and I just love how it truly captures it all!!!
A wonderful, heartfelt film

This beautifully crafted film goes to the heart of what it means to teach. It deals with both the struggles and the deeply moral mission of a profession that often chooses us rather than the other way about. Hanon's story resonated deeply with my pre-service students, giving them a sense of the challenges that lie ahead and the rewards that await them if they only stick it out. It provides the long(er) view of what it means to learn to teach. It doesn't happen in a day, or a year of teacher education. It takes time and a ton of work, all of which Harchol is unafraid to explore. I highly recommend it.
Most accurate teacher move.

I loved this movie. It was so authentic and real in the characters, the way the characters interacted and the general premise of the film. The frustration and resulting self absorption of the main character was almost palpable. The film resonated with me because I myself have been frustrated with newer teachers "figuring it out" and realizing that you can be great at anything but that doesn't mean you can teach it. Teaching in itself is a separate trade to learn all on its own and this film totally captured the real world aspect of this as it can happen in any school, anywhere. I laughed and cried, was pissed off at many of the characters and joyful at other times. Best way to deliver a film. I didn't want to spoil it so I stayed ambiguous. I highly recommend this film to anyone!
Highly Effective 😉

Excellent film! About a Teacher is true depiction of what teachers feel and experience every day. I have never seen a more real film about educators before. This film shows the day to day life of teachers, the highs and lows. If you would like to get a true depiction of what it is like to be a teacher, I highly recommend watching About a Teacher.
The real deal about teaching!

"About a Teacher" is poignant, gut-wrenching, and entertaining film that also shines a light on the bureaucratic barriers teachers face every day. Friends who teach have spoken about those impediments for years: Hanan Harchol takes it one step further, illuminating these struggles realistically on screen. "About a Teacher" not only demonstrates the hurdles Harchol contends with but those of his former students, whose resilience and talent are palpable despite their complicated, young lives. For some, it is incredible that they just show up and do the work. This film exemplifies how one teacher's passion can spur students to tell stories that reflects their lived experiences and grapple with trauma. Ultimately, the film is a testament to the need for systemic change in the way we train and support teachers so that their students can succeed.
