Need different scoring system.
shannone13 January 2019
I agree with other reviews...the scoring doesn't make sense. What incentive is there to fairly judge someone else's place of you know you already lost?

They could read the reviews out loud to the group but save the scores until after all the homes have been judged. I would also suggest they do smaller groups or make sure ALL of the contestants have the same number of bedrooms to level the playing field.

One thing I found amusing was that quite often the loudest, most obnoxious people ended up having the least to brag about!

UNFAIR, TOO MUCH DRAMA AND THE WORST PEOPLE
unicorndog1 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Look! I've got a lot of things to say about this show.

1. I know that this is a competition!!! BUT whoever the producers are, they should take it in account that the properties should all be equal, I mean if the point of the competition is for the guest to sleep in with a total of 8 people, of course the property should have 4 bedrooms or more. It's unreal when they score some houses low because they lack bedrooms or sleeping on couches when in reality that property is good for 4 or 6 people in total.

2. The JUDGES/CONTESTANTS The first half of the show got some really nice people, they played fair when it comes to sharing. MEANWHILE the other half kept a close mind when it comes to staying at other properties. THIS PART OF THE SHOW IS REALLY ANNOYING. THE CONTESTANTS ARE THE ONE GIVING THE SCORES, LIKE DUHHH THEY WON'T GIVE YOU A FAIR SCORE THEY WANTED TO WIN! they'll look at things negatively...

3. THE SCORING IS SO BAD They should score at the end when they're all done staying at each others houses so there won't be any bad blood amongst them. Some really tries hard to critique other properties that they didn't really followed criteria. It's become like revenge or payback that they would score the others lower because someone scored them low as well.

4. Location/Culture It's kinda unfair for some to compete against Sydney or other cities in Australia when your property is elsewhere. I mean if you're going to book that property, it is because you'll be going there and what better way to stay rather than in a cheap hotel/motel. That's how airbnb works if you need to go in (ex: Barossa) you'll find somewhere to stay there that fits your needs or style and what a hotel can't give you.

This show was a let down and I'm being generous giving it a six. Because the houses were really nice, Australia is amazing and the host and professional judge was sweet and that's it.

Great Concept but poor scoring system and standards
jason-filby-980-88680318 January 2019
This show has grown on me but truly the scoring system is laughable and judging standards do not go deep enough. It's about drama and not truth...hosts should be part of the scoring system by the judge which there should be more than one...the judge should also stay a night as it's a joke they get a vote without it. Unfair system...anyone can rate low to get winning spot in game....it's got a great hook but it executed like a soap opera.

Watch season 2!!
sbrook1719 May 2020
I started with season 2 on accident and absolutely loved it. It showed in depth the beautiful houses and the people were all quite enjoyable to watch with little drama. After finishing the season I decided to watch season 1 assuming I would love it just as much.. boy was I wrong. Season 1 is pure drama (which I usually can stand more than the average person being a reality tv junkie) but this was bad. The contestants were rating the houses unfairly and it was essentially a popularity contest at the end of the day, which sat wrong with me. I could only make it through halfway and I had to stop because it was so painful to watch and I genuinely hated almost all of the contestants to the point that I lost all motivation to start the second part. If you're gonna watch this show just go straight to season 2, which was delightful and had some major improvements from the previous season.

new reality show from australia on netflix
davidm-1428 December 2018
5 pairs of Australians take turns hosting each other at their respective vacation rentals all around the country. After each stay, they rate the accommodation (as owners, as the folks staying, and a judge who tags along), hoping to win the competition.

The couples are pretty varied (old, young, mother/daughter, same sex), and, as the show moves along and we get to know them, some of the realness comes through, which, for me, was the most entertaining. The snarkiness and maneuvering is more pronounced as we reach the end (some of them more subtle than others). most notable is the discussion about who will get the master bedroom at each property.

One thing i might change (if i could) in future iterations would be to keep the ongoing scores from the teams. while it fueled some competition-related upsmanship, i think it would be more dramatic to reveal these more near the end.

The personal pride each couple takes in their home is also interesting. The properties are pretty varied as well. A decent, enjoyable watch.

Nice Guys Finish First...but
timmurphy-212 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
My wife and I binge watched this show. We're planning a trip to Australia in a few years so seeing some of the sights associated with these instant hotels, so that part of the program was interesting. The first season was interesting but in the end the mother-daughter team that won the place in the final were fairly unprincipled in their scoring. As a result, there was a sense of irritation that only got more irritating when we started watching season two. Some of these couples were simply mean spirited and it was unwatchable. Their comments got personal & that aspect of the show made it less attractive than some of the similar shows on HGTV. The scoring system fostered cheating. Thankfully, Terry and Anita, a pleasant couple from Brisbane ended up pulling out the win. Personally, the critiques from the professional were the most worthwhile and I think the show would benefit from her sole critique and scoring determining the winner, or having guests who are not themselves the competitors score the hotels (similar to the grand finale).

Loved this series
cehutton1 January 2019
I binged watched this series as it was fun to watch couples check out each other's instant hotel. My only criticism is that some were clearly in it for the drama and were not judging fairly. For season two I hope they either place clearer rules to make it fair or only bring on people who are serious about the instant hotel business. I still have this show a 10 because despite its faults the best place won and in th end people voted fairly.

Fatally flawed scoring system
scmmjm17 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
My family and I got totally sucked in! It's a VERY binge-inducing show. We watched all of season 1 in a day. But we were quickly irritated by the scoring system. It's completely unfair, hence easily manipulated and sabotaged scoring by the contestants. By the middle of the 2nd group of people and due to the horrible personalities and unfair scoring system, we were turned off and done with it yet wanted to finish what we started. The first group had mostly pleasant, diplomatic, thoughtful and considerate couples. That made us want to keep watching. But the second group of people had some of the most horrendous, hate-filled personalities I've ever seen on TV. A reality TV program doesn't need villains or a production team that eggs on villainy to be enjoyable or successful. We've just begun season 2 and only because a quick internet search told us the people are more pleasant in season 2. I really hope that season 2 contestants grade each other more fairly than season 1. It quickly became trash TV with those toxic personalities ruining the premise of the show in the first season.

The second season is much better!
alexshevchuk29 April 2020
The first season was nice and entertaining, but the players made it feel very "cheap" with dirty scoring and nasty comments. Didnt like they brought the most nasty people from the show to judge in the final. Karma had to work extra on those people...

The second season was better with no "Host scoring" system and much more friendly players. Plus the finalist got 10k to make their place better for the final score, which is nice and fair.

The problems i had with this show: 1. Trying to compare a giant mansion in the jungle to a tiny house in the suburbs, isnt really fair. 2. People giving low scores just because they hate the owner or use some kind strategy to win.

I really the show keep it coming :)

S1 Okay, S2 bad
Untoten2 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It's pretty decent reality show, first season was far more interesting. Competitors in S1 were more natural and honesty than in S2. Especially those two ladies in S2 were too dramatic and fake, the competition was too maneuver as well. If they will make S3, I hope it will be more like s1 where househotels were unique sometimes atleast.

didn't have high hopes.
southbound727216 January 2019
Honestly just clicked on it for background noise but found myself binging it. The casting was brilliant. The people casting knew what they were doing, kinda had a mtv real world vibe to it. Not the show but the cast. You had your villains, snobs, hippies etc. that's what kept me watching. Loved the back stabbing and just the whole vibe of the show. Couldn't wait to get to the next episode. Also can't wait for hopefully a 2nd season. Good job casting crew. Bravo.

I'm torn

Warning: Spoilers
I am so disappointed in the outcome of season 1. The biggest disaster won which is just sad. Babe and Bondi are just a train wreck. I literally can't stand them. The other couples seemed nice though.

Interesting concept, insufferable candidates.
julietta-696668 January 2019
I actually like the idea behind the show. But what the hell is wrong with those candidates? It seems the more corrupt you vote, the higher chances you get to win the show. Does this reflect our current society in terms of selfishness, arrogance and corruption, or is this just a little touch of hyped drama put on top of the series to make it even more exciting? Anyway, after having seen this, I would never ever book most of those "Instant hotels". So I think they didn't do good advertisement for themselves in the end. And the producers should definitely think about a new rating system that is more fair and makes more sense.

Why the changes
clancyboy42011 August 2019
If i was rating the first season as a stand alone, i would have given it 10 stars. The first season is full of laughs, drama, and it was very well rounded. I have no idea why they changed the format for the second season. I find the new host is way too much, and his jokes dont land. I'm gay, and a drag queen, yet I find him too flamboyant. So that says a lot. The drama is gone, the interesting characters are gone, and the spark is gone. They shortened it as well which leads to less room for excitement. I'd say check out the first, pass on the second.

Great entertaining show
rosswilcock18 July 2019
I am watching this on Netflix UK and think this is a really fun and addictive reality show. And was gutted to see there was only 6 episodes in season 2.

I am a fan of the hosts and thing that this film has an awesome future and in fact would love to see it travel the world.

Netflix and 7 network (Australian channel for the show) should put more money and time into this.

I was gutted that Luke Jacobz left but still enjoyed the new host! Juliet Ashworth is now one of my favourite people haha.

My only annoyance was the contestants from episode 6 onwards were not the nicest and I didn't like there attitudes at all. But that's what is so great about reality shows.

Highly recommend!

Gets better with the second season
rngindler7 July 2019
When I heard of this competition I was so excited to watch it. Initially the first season started out pretty good but by the second half of the season it was bogged down by too much drama and spiteful, petty players attempting to sabotage their competitors or giving completely unjust low scores for the sake of winning. Too much power was given to these snotty groups making the show feel too rigged to enjoy it as a true competition and throughout the season I found myself frustrated, wishing that they had some sort of penalty system in place specifically for the liars and cheaters. However, when season 2 came out I decided to give it another go and I'm glad to see that it has improved. While they do still have an obvious "antagonist" of the group, the new villains are much more bearable than Serena and her little minion. The drama was kept to a minimum and the competitors were reasonable with their scores. I hope they continue to improve this show and calm down with the catty attitudes.

INSTANT Karma
NJMoon8 January 2019
This is a really good reality competition show marred by a confusing and flawed scoring system. The producers need to watch "Four Weddings" to see how to do it right. All the rules were not fully explained to viewers or contestants and the latter was clearly meant to encourage backstabbing. The producers obviously want "drama" but it actually becomes uncomfortable to watch at times. The first group of hoteliers were fairly civil compared to the second batch. Casting was clearly the main criteria for the show, considering the homes all have different number of bedrooms. How can one score fairly if they slept on a sofa or the floor? Shay and Mike, young rich brats, are naive. They opened their parents home to worldwide criticism. Since it was already a cult headquarters - it didn't need help in that department. The two spoiled rich kids also failed to realize that they were painting themselves as ridiculous and childish - a reputation that will follow them. This show has a lot to offer - but it needs to get its act together in the casting and scoring.

Must watch
natalieeknesbo4 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
SEASON 1: Not that good. I dont want to watch people who argue and do drama to each other. And rate others for the people and not the home. But it is exiting to see all the properties.

SEASON 2: Very good. Must watch! LOVE The homes there.

Loved the show but hated the faulty scoring system
micah-3973924 June 2020
I really liked this show. My wife and I binge watched the first season and are starting the second now. I came to read reviews to see if anyone else was annoyed by the scoring system like we were. Some of the people were judging the homes off of the owners and would give them low scores just because "they didn't like them" or to cheat and try to knock the scores down so they had a chance.

Juliet was a breath of fresh air with her being polite and actually judging the homes and not the owners. I was glad to see her back on season 2.

I really wish the show would quit letting people cheat and stop scoring people off if they like them or not. Some of the people got completely screwed.

Riveting Reality TV
tmans71314 June 2021
This competitive reality TV show follows several pairs of homeowners as they take turns staying at each other's rental properties. After a busy day of local activities and an overnight stay, the contestants judge their opponent's Airbnbs based on four criteria (Home, Location, Sleep, Value). There are a few glaring inconsistencies between seasons 1 and 2, but overall this show has a lot of potential, showcases beautiful destinations in Australia and seems to be headed in the right direction.

Trashy Reality Tv at its Best!
dtweak-956019 January 2019
This show is great, you get to see some nice parts of Australia and some beautiful houses.

It does feel a little staged though and the scoring system is designed to cause conflict between the owners. It's definitely more jersey shore than it is a competition and in the finale they made the worst couples the judges just to make it more interesting.

beck-7951613 January 2019
This was a new spin on homeowner/design reality shows. It would be cool to see them do this in different countries. I'd love to see them do it here in the states. I've stayed in my fair share of vaca rentals and they are definitely not all held to the same standard. I think the scoring system needs tweaking but I hope there are more seasons.

Great Show to Start...But Turned Off By The Second Half.
unwritten7531 December 2018
We stumbled on this series from Australia on Netflix. First half of the "season" we absolutely loved and binged watched. As we got into the second half the next day, each episode got worse and worse. It went from being focused on the instant hotel owners and their properties to so much DRAMA! Super disappointed in how the series changed so much. I really hope if there is another season, they go back to the root of the show and get rid of more of the drama.

Amazing consept
jonas_ljungby4 January 2019
Its lovely to see this show, different characters and amazing locations. The negativ is in the contest nerly noone is scoring what they think, insted they just score to win the price. Change the scoring part so they Will score right.

Minus if they are far away from the professional score. I dont know but want to see more of the show. But cant continue if the scoring is as is.
