It's a bittersweet joy.

Daisy Haggard is just enchanting, I am totally captivated watching her, she is tormented, drowning in charisma, and yet bright and full of optimism.

It's a slow burner, we're only getting glimpses of Miree's past, I assume we'll only get to know her crime at the end.

It really does pose an interesting question, is someone forgiven for doing time for their crime, or are they perpetually punished. I find this show addictive and captivating. The switch up from light to dark is impressive.

Geraldine James is absolutely hilarious as her misbehaving mum, never thought is see her in such a role.

Two Episodes in and...

This is a comedy? Really?

It is powerful, sad and occasionally awkward enough to make me laugh. Definitely not a comedy yet, maybe it will be. The acting and script are amazing.

Mandy

The opening of episode of this dramedy gives a little more detail of that crime that Miri committed.

The audience is also introduced to her ex best friend Mandy who did not once visit or write to Miri in prison. Mandy also seems to be in some kind of distress. It might be due to Miri being released from prison or that she is the headmistress of the local school.

There is no shortage of hate shown to Miri, human faeces is sent to her in the post.

Miri though needs to adjust quickly to life in 2019, she is an adult beginner and she starts her new job in a fish and chip shop. The chip shop owner is uneasily trying to be patient with her and at least Miri has an idea to bring in more customers.

Old boyfriend Dom visits the chip shop. He wants to meet Miri even though apart from being married he is also carrying on with Miri's mother.

The episode does highlight the hate towards Miri and by the end of the episode the audience does find out what Miri may had done at the clifftop. It is surprisingly funny in places given the subject matter.

Warning: Spoilers
I was excited for this show, but now two episodes in I feel really let down. This isn't funny and the drama isn't enough to sell it as a dramedy.

This show doesn't have an identity and while it is interesting, there are a lot of better shows out there on telly.
