- ¡OJALÁ! - Puerto Rico Rebuilds is a bilingual documentary film that is about the wishes, hopes and dreams of the Puerto Rican people after hurricane Maria. Sparked by the destruction throughout the island, we learn how the Puerto Rican people are strong and resilient. Overcoming many challenges, they have come together and are rebuilding their lives to not simply survive, but thrive. ¡OJALÁ! is not about politics, it is about the Puerto Rican spirit.
The film unfolds through a simple four part structure: 1) HUMANITARIAN DISASTER - Category Five Hurricane, 2) THE RECOVERY - Coming Together To Rebuild, 3) THE FUTURE - Hopes For Puerto Rico, and 4) THE SPIRIT OF Puerto Rico. The film consists of 21 interviews that feature the following renowned Puerto Ricans: Pedro Adorno (Artist/Theatre & Film Director), Aníbal Acevedo Vilá (Former Governor of Puerto Rico), Cecille Blondet (Executive Director, Espacios Abiertos), Sandra Rodríguez Cotto (Journalist/Radio & TV Producer), Carlos Guzman (Sculptor), Ivonne Belén (Film Director), Jean-Michel Fiedler (Artist), Julia Keleher (Secretary of Education of Puerto Rico), Waleska Crespo (President, Universidad Central del Caribe) and Manuel Fernós (President, Inter American University of Puerto Rico). During the film, we hear the interviewees share their personal perspectives, speaking passionately about life after Maria and their wishes for a better Puerto Rican future. ¡OJALÁ! - Puerto Rico Rebuilds concludes with several interviewees sharing their "OJALÁ's" (wishes and hopes) for Puerto Rico.
