Emotionally charged, but great news at the end.

Ok so you need to believe that anything can happen, no matter how unlikely the possibility, there are some events that happen, which will have you scratching your head. If you can just accept that you're watching a TV show, then you can enjoy this. It's attempting to show that q new world was coming, that the old mind sets and class system were done, only it never really was the case for many.

Plenty of scenes tug at the heart strings, Jan's big moment for one, Harry's big moment, for me though this was stolen by two terrific performances in particular, Helen Hunt, she showed what a class act she really is, brilliant, and the other, arguably the star of the show,L Manville. Manville's acting to my me is BAFTA worthy, her expressions, reactions and whole demeanour have been breathtaking throughout. I had forgotten just how good she is. Credit also to the young lad playing Jan, he's was great.

I was delighted to see another series planned, it performed consistently, it's been a very thought provoking watch. 8/10

Episode 1.7

Peter Bowker has gone for an epic warftime saga. This is a story that is going to run for some years. The finale does have some coming together.

The last episode fleshes out some more about Nancy Campbell. So far Helen Hunt has been more about exposition but we glean something about her private life.

Once again the icy Robina Chase thaws a little. This time over the impending birth over her grandchild. Lois Bennett decides that the dashing airman Vernon Hunter might be a better father than Harry Chase.

It is Harry who started out as a wet fish in the foreign office who becomes a natural soldier. He is sent behind the lines and makes an unexpected reunion.

As World on Fire wants to tell a sprawling and interweaving story. You do have to swallow some artistic liberty as the cast seem to criss cross each other just a tad too coincidentally. I did it find the first series more enjoyable than I initially expected.
