- As her father's retirement approaches, a student filmmaker living abroad attempts to bring a story the father wrote to life, to prevent him from abandoning his one last creative passion that's fading away.
- Jamie is a Chinese film student studying abroad, and Baba (her father) is a philosophy professor living in China alone. Once a spirited and rebellious youth, he was forced to abandon his artistic pursuits due to social and family pressures. The only creative passion he retained was writing novels, through which he documented his fascinating life, hoping his daughter can eventually make them into films. However, as Baba's retirement approaches, he stops sending Jamie new stories, triggering her decision to hatch a plan to inspire him to keep writing. Via a video chat, Jamie tells Baba that she wants to adapt one of his excerpts into a short film. Hearing that she desperately needs his help, he is thrilled to come on board. In the story they chose, Baba, when he was 10, serves as a "little red guard" for the Communist Party during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. While executing a mission he initially feels proud of, the young kid becomes conflicted by his feelings of sympathy towards others. He ends up getting scolded for failing to follow orders, but still decides to stand tall for his belief. Jamie and Baba start collaborating remotely in developing this project, during which she witnesses his exuberance. In one of their video chats, he reveals that had circumstances been different, he may have chosen to be a filmmaker. This strikes a chord with Jamie, forcing her to reevaluate her own journey and her relationship with Baba. She feels sorrowful for how they have grown apart over the years and reminisces nostalgically about the bond they once shared, recognizing that what matters is not the film product but the relationship itself. After this breakthrough, she approaches the project with a new set of eyes - this film, and with it their renewed collaboration and connection, are the start of a new dynamic for the two of them. It's a journey they can travel on together in Baba's next chapter.
