OK got promise

While it starts slow by US standards it is not all blood and guts and infighting and that is refreshing I think it has promise and there is a lot to build on

Great Show

Finally CBC got it right. This show is modern, as the issues are real for our times. One episode explored the treatment that a First Nation female had to endure in our society. Also having a First Nation male lawyer understanding her perspective while their economic place in society is very different, their respect for truth and honour are the same.

Promising but...
bif-2164711 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It started well in Season 1 but from the middle of Season 2, it started its downfall in its writing, acting and story-telling. The female lead character started to become arrogant in her profession. Some stories are just hard to believe especially Season 3. Who agrees to a payout without NDA? It was also where we know the stories are going to - hate towards law enforcers and the justice system is a failure. What is the purpose of the character Avery aside from dating two lawyers and not winning a case? The best decorative character I've seen on television.

Pleasantly surprised

I've watched a lot of good legal dramas in my time and this is as enjoyable as most of them. I like the characters (one of the character's parents do some cabaret singing), the heart and the Canadian setting.

Got excited for nothing

Saw the title and thought sweet they're gonna do a Diggstown boxing series. Nope just another run of the mill legal drama mulling over cases; law & order have already closed. New faces, same reactions. It's kinda like watching the Kardashians, it's fake as hell, but you already know the story

What a lovely show

I've never been a fan of legal dramas because most are set in the States and feature horrific crimes that are often based on the same horrific crimes that occur in the States. I personally don't find that enjoyable. I thought I would give this show a try because we Canadians don't presently have a legal drama of our own that is set in Canada. Another reason I watched I watched is because of Vinessa Antoine, who is a great lead. I've watched her in supporting roles before (I LOVED Being Erica and when I'm off on Fridays I often check out what's up on General Hospital (the new Jordan was a poor casting choice and can't act, but I digress) and Vinessa is showing that she can lead a show. I'm glad I watched and will continue to do so. I've even learned some things about Nova Scotia that I didn't know! Only one thing would make the show better, a better production budget, because it looks like they've only spent a few thousand dollars more than the Canadian shows I used to watch when I was a little girl. But then again, this is on CBC, and I don't want my taxes to go up :)

It's abundantly clear where this is trying to go

Unfortunately it is lacking the chops to get there. EVERYTHING: photography, acting, writing, directing . . . everything is far too weak to get it there. This is a big solid NO.

Great Canadian show!

I really enjoyed this show last season! I tuned into watch the premiere of season 2 and was not disappointed! It's refreshing to watch a show with so much multiculturalism and based in a Canadian city. Vanessa is a fabulous lead and the story lines are intriguing. I look forward to watching the rest of this season hope they do more than 6 episodes moving forward!

Great Show
lseamone-8773211 May 2019
I have just watched the last four episodes of this show and wanted to see what the reviews looked like. I am astonished at the one and two star ratings and the associated comments. I am not sure how lucid these individuals were at their time of viewing. The comments sounded like those reviewers whose preferences are more at the Marvel comic level, somewhere way below low. This show was a very pleasant break from the American trash we are constantly subjected too. It makes me sad to see good Canadian productions trashed by who knows who. Both my wife and I earlier recorded the last four episodes of the series and we just got around to watching them, enjoying every second. We will now watch the first two episodes using CBC Gem if I can get it to work. Among other things, the acting, photography and writing were all excellent. I do not usually recommend things to friends and acquaintances, but in this case I have no hesitation in recommending this show to anyone. This series is worth watching, especially if you are from the Maritimes. We hope a second season will be forthcoming.

Excellent nuanced portrayal of Indigenous issues
ann-lawson14 March 2020
Wow! I was startled to find how well done Season 2 Episode 2 turned out to be. The acting by everyone was terrific and the script was so well crafted. Last year I thought Diggstown was a pleasant but run-of-the-mill lawyer drama but this year has a lot more going for it.

Knockout Legal Show that Nails the Issues
carolpatterson-7108711 November 2021
This CBC drama is superb. I am have practiced law in Halifax, and their depiction of lawyers at Legal Aid, the "big" firm, and the law school are dead on. The treatment of the black and indigenous issues is nuanced and compelling. The actors are great, the characters are developed and Halifax, Dartmouth and Martinique Beach are shown to advantage. Having binged all 17 episodes on CBCGem recently, there wasn't one that was weak or contrived. Bravo Floyd Kane and the CBC!

Real, Human and very Current
jbsmyr16 November 2021
The writing and production of Season 3 has really stepped it up!! It is very well done!!

As my heading says, it's very current on its Canadian content.....with real issues, with real people.

I am really enjoying it!!
