Interesting though a bit vague.

"The Women in the Sand" is a film about two elderly women who are from the Timbisha Shoshone tribe who live in Death Valley....yes, Death Valley! The story is about the pair's attempts to get justice and representation for their interests, as the film gives many examples where government agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Indian Affairs have actually made life much more difficult. The film also talks about how the elders in Bishop, California (about a two hour drive from where the women live) and how they, too, aren't adequately representing the women and their interests.

So why do I give this one a 6? Well, it did keep my interest but the film also left too many questions unanswered...such as what these women actually want! The omission seems strange...as if the film ended prematurely. Not a bad film but one that wasn't super clear about its aims. It was much better when it talked less about their grievances and more about the women and their concern about the loss of culture and language they see coming in the near future.
