What an incredible smell you've discovered!
southdavid29 January 2020
The consistent run of good episodes that have made up this first half of the second season continues. As the show mixes some back story with the current plot, this time to focus on the love between Judy and her adopted father.

Trapped down the well, and with his abdomen pierced by a metal fragment, John (Toby Stephens) thinks back over his relationship with his eldest daughter Judy (Taylor Russell). Judy is racing back to her father when her rover breaks down and she is forced to run several miles to try and get him the medicine he needs. Meanwhile, on the Resolute, Penny (Mina Sundwell) takes exception to Dr Smith's (Parker Posey) newfound freedom and begins to work on bringing her down.

The thing that struck me in this episode, more than it has in any of the others so far, is how Toby Stephens, so often the villain, or at the very least anti-hero, has made John Robinson into a great TV dad. For the first time (that I can remember) we learned something about Judy's biological father, an astronaut who passed away very early in her life. There are then several flashbacks showing John supporting her at various points in her youth. Juxtaposed with the (admittedly unlikely) threat to John's life, it was all quite moving. Particularly Judy's emotional speech to keep him fighting.

Ben (who increasingly is looking like turning out to be a villain) travels with Maureen and Will to try and find O.G Robot. Whilst Penny recruits her love interest Vijay to try and bring down Dr Smith before another game changing twist at the end.

Another decent, if as others have pointed out somewhat derivative, episode for a show that's found its feet at last.

Element "borrowed" from others.
kender-725-35842527 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The writers were pretty brazen in this episode with "borrowing" some plot elements. One that has not been mentioned is that the metal destroying that kills human technology and can leave humans stranded on a planet is very similar to a short story by Clifford D. Simak. It was titled "Beachhead" and was published originally as "'You'll Never Go Home Again!'" in the July 1951 Fantastic Adventures.

Mediocre... But not that bad!
st_heinz26 January 2020
Certainly not the best episode. This is probably because the overall story of the season hardly evolves with this episode. Instead, the usual scheme is run through again: obstacles and insoluble dangers constantly appear, which are cleared out of the way. Sometimes you think: you can't have that much bad luck in one Single day. The actual story (including the Flashbacks) about John and Judy is predictable and not very inspired, but - also to be mentioned - very well filmed. As always, the special effects are top, cinema level.

Wow what an episode
larosaj-2666627 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As usual the suspense was through the roof but this had some flashbacks to a younger Judy that were poignant and meaningful coming full circle when she's trying to save her dad. And that final scene when she's racing to where he's hurt was emotional and heartfelt; especially with the haunting music playing. This show is just as good as a The Expanse. Between this, The Expanse and The Mandalorian, it's been a great month for space sci-fi.

Wow what an episode
larosaj-2666626 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The effects are so flawless you almost think everything you're watching is real. Superb acting and the usual suspenseful Robinson brushes with death that are the show's staple. The flashbacks were very emotional and poignant. Judy's run to save her Dad was nerve wracking and tense but the scene when she reached him ( my wife and I are huge fans for slo-mo ) was incredibly beautiful; especially with the haunting music in the background. This season is just as good as the first and is right up there with The Expanse as the two best sci-fi shows currently on the air.

Got me in the feels
ohroonoko6 December 2021
The father-daughter relationship between Judy and John really got me in the feels. I'm not crying, you're crying! It's these humanizing character-centric plots that really make a show special because it's often tried but not always this well executed, well scripted and well acted.

I liked the emotion in this episode although it did get silly at times. Holding interest but only slight!

The science is more believable than the treatment of Dr. Smith
captain_astronaut16 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
How is Dr. Smith such a diabolical genius in space but on Earth she was a massive screw up who couldn't get her life together? Are there no fingerprints or DNA tests in the future? She just has to say "I'm Dr. Smith," steal someone's microchip, delete some security footage, and no one double checks? There was only one cop who suspected her and he kept it to himself and didn't file a report on her? The Robinsons en masse don't report her immediately to the authorities. Maureen just handcuffs her and walks off the ship? She should've been spaced 100 times over.

It has enough poor writing as it is, it doesn't need an impossible villain and incomprehensible stupidity on the Robinson's part.

I have been watching this, with some irritation...
LAmitch26 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
... but this is the episode where they jumped the shark. First we had velociraptor scene from Jurassic Park. When whey entered the ship trash dump, I told myself if they get caught in there, and the room starts to compact, I will stop watching this show. It starts to compact, and her shoe gets stuck.

These are obviously some of the laziest writers in all the history of television! What a shame.

Too much tedious filler
mcconvilleandrewmcconville31 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Endless talking and talking and talking, and who gets there leg caught under a rubbish bag, and after going to all that trouble getting into the garbage disposal how can you take so long to spot the only blue bag amongst all the green bags and then fail to take the bag. And how many flashbacks is too many (answered ...1) Good show, poor episode. 20 minutes of action stretched to an hour.

Haven't we scene this before?
csteinmayer-251415 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Velociraptors, trash compactors.... lazy writing abounds. I had so much hope for this show. I guess with all the content creation, the available writers are just getting worse and the good ones, far and few between.
