• Danny McNamara : Hawala's an ancient system of undocumented money transfers, based on honor code. There is no transaction record, no paper trail to follow ; One goes to a hawaladar with the right password, and a predetermined amount. It's been in place for over a thousand years, enabling trade along the Silk Road, outlasting empires, helping give birth to the modern financial system. It's based on nothing more than an ironclad honor code. It's still in place, even today. Hawala means "exchange" in Arabic, but its original meaning is "trust" in Hindi.
