When the F-16 was shot down, it was heading back to a US Navy carrier. While testing a theory about widening sub-tuner bandwidth and subsequently locating the shot down F-16 pilot, Gus says "Thats a air force parachute" but the F-16's were originally returning to US Navy Carrier, which is impossible as the Navy does not fly F-16's.
In the story, F-16's are deployed from the US aircraft carrier and Pine Gap was tracking them. Fact: F-16's are not equipped to takeoff or land on aircraft carriers - they are USAF only and are not Navy aircraft.
There are several references to F-16 fighter jets, which are "returning to the Bartlett", (fictional US aircraft carrier USS Bartlett). However, F-16's are not carrier borne jets, so would not have the capability to land on an aircraft carrier.
In the opening scene, Jacob states that the F-16's ejection seat and PLB ( Personal Locating Beacon ) is operating at 503.7 MHz. this is not a correct frequency for Emergency Beacons. they operate on 121.5, 243 and 406 MHz. these 3 frequencies operate simultaneously for local rescue teams Radio Direction Finding and COSPAS/SARSAT Systems. 503.7 MHz is actually within the UHF Over-The-Air Broadcast TV Frequency Band. since the UHF portion of TV Channels starts at 503 MHz.
