While some see the Boston Globe article mentioned as a goof, it is not. Actually, there was an initial article written around 2011 by a female journalist for the Globe that exposed the betting groups and the flaw. The HuffPost article was written later and focused more on Jerry and Marge themselves.
The story is set in the present day, rather than in 2003 when the story happened in real life.
The song that Jerry and Marge dance to in the liquor store is the same song used by the California Lottery in their ads.
Prologue: "Inspired by true story. In all probability."
Jerrry & Marges syndicate win ($27m) is not far away from the films estimated production budget of $22m. However, adjusted for inflation, the win value today would be approx $37m (in 2013)
