I Believe Jane
juliekcreel30 January 2019
I do believe that Jane is the victim of abuse which resulted in her having D.I.D. The show, however, is disjointed and poorly done. A&E is doing Jane, and their viewers, a disservice by treating this like a melodrama rather than fact.

It's interesting
theturtlechirp25 March 2021
While I sympathize with jane's trauma, from someone who has been traumatized, her DID is rediculous. I've seen better acting in tough acting tinacton. A good documentary, very interesting, but I do not for one second believe she has DID. I question whether her kids are in a safe environment.

Promising program
thewishsystem2 February 2019
This series has a lot of potential and I'll update once it's reached its completion, but I've been pretty impressed by Jane's bravery and openness while dealing with some extremely sensitive and personal things. As someone with DID I'm always curious when the media tries to cover the topic. I'm disappointed nearly every time. My only complaint so far with The Many Sides of Jane is the overly dramatic effects added by producers and/or editors of the show during the switches between her parts. It's unnecessary and over the top. Letting go of that annoyance, I'm hopeful that the show will continue to dive into the realities of living with this disorder. I'm skeptical that the public at large will be able to push aside such a thick stigma, but media that actually shows DID is essentially nonexistent. Hopefully, this is a step toward humanizing such a misunderstood diagnosis.

Seems fake
emceegusto11 April 2020
I could be wrong, but Jane seems like she's acting. How does she have SO much intimate details about her other "personalities"? I'm not a psychologist but I do read a lot and try to stay abreast on modern science and psychology. DID is a suspicious disorder in itself and not all doctors and psychologists agree that it actually exists. Many believe it's a form of bipolar or schizophrenia. I bring this up because the authenticity of Jane and her "others" actually existing is questionable. The show seems like a drama/reality show ala Real Housewives, survivor, etc.

Again I'm not an expert, but everything about the show is fishy and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was all scripted.

A more accurate representation of DID
shadowechoes15 March 2019
It was nice to finally see a much more accurate representation of DID in the media that is working to break through stigma surrounding this disorder. Having been diagnosed with DID in 2003, I have not seen any good representations of DID until this show. I could really relate to what was being portrayed and to Jane and the rest of her system. The show addressed both some of the positives and some of the negatives to having DID, and stressed that it's a trauma disorder and very real (and not the way it's usually portrayed in media). It's really sad that despite all of this, so many people are still so closed minded to not believe DID is real or to say that Jane is faking. With the recent #MeToo movement and the campaign to end mental health stigma, this show is very timely - if only DID survivors were as believed as the rest of abuse survivors and less stigmatized as other mental illnesses. Well, I still loved the show, and am glad to finally have an easy to consume resource that I can share with friends when trying to explain my diagnosis and what it's like to live with. Thank you Jane for being so brave as to share your life and your system with us.

Is she or isn't she? Who knows.
samba5321123 October 2019
I wanted to like the show. And that's the thing; this is done like a reality show, not a documentary. Every moment of it sounds completely scripted. I think DID is real, and I'd like to see a real documentary on it. For all I know, Jane is for real, but she doesn't come across that way because of the reality-show treatment of her, including all the scripted drama. Assuming Jane IS real, the show does her a disservice. I didn't even make it to the end of episode 1 and won't be watching any more.

Accurate Representation of DID FINALLY!
ashlynl-2138130 January 2019
The people who dislike this really seem to have no experience with DID. It has been misrepresented in media so many times, to the point that people think those with DID are evil/posessed/dangerous and they are not. Jane didn't create this to be a spectacle for those who don't get it, Jane did this so that there would be correct and relatable information out there on DID. I believe it is very well done, and Jane is so brave for putting her and her whole system out there when there are so many heartless and cruel people judging them. DID stems from childhood trauma, it is not easy thing to broadcast for the world. Well done!!

I have DID
blazeangelg28 January 2019
.... And this show is almost like a drama with her breakups. It's cliche. They could have done so much more but instead they show her alter not caring about a break up while she cries... Her alter being over dramatic and texting the producers. It's just pathetic. The beginning was very promising as it explained DID and you got to see her parts. The rest is like I'm watching big brother meets the bachelor.

Wonderful Job showing what life is like with DID
emilygcarlson15 March 2019
It was truly life changing for me to watch this show. Walking through life with DID can make you feel so alone and isolated because of the serious lack of knowledge that comes with it. Her story helped me understand my system and how to communicate more effectively. This whole process of healing can be so confusing and overwhelming, but it's so validating to see that I'm not alone and this is all very real. Jane's bravery and vulnerability to break the silence and stigma of this very real struggle to heal from childhood trauma is the work of a true hero in my world. Thank you for giving us voice Jane

What a snooze.
leelendlove24 January 2019
She's so corny when "normal" that when she's in one of her "parts" as she calls it, she couldn't come of more unconvincing. Not only is this chick not made for TV, the way they filmed this drags the build up for so long you lose interest before the climax of the show has a chance to arrive. Simply put: this show sucks.

As someone who deals with this disorder I think this show represents DID very well. I think Jane is brave and she gives the world an accurate representation of a disorder that has been sensationalized and given a scary and violent representation in hollywood.

Hmmm
alyce-5519230 January 2019
First episode "Jane" says when she started going to therapy her therapist mentioned that she looked like she was dragging a blanket and a soppy cup... and BOOM that was enough for this woman to trust this man and agree that she has this D.I.D. Just not sold!

Great Docuseries!
MEODell7016 March 2019
I really appreciated this show. Jane was so brave to participate and be vulnerable with her experience. I have a degree in psychology, but not much experience with abnormal psych. I learned a lot about how she lives with her manifestation of DID. The times that I have worked with people who have had this diagnosis were similar to her case. This show gave me much more insight into it. It also was consistent with the many coping mechanisms people develop with abuse induced PTSD. Especially the younger parts that continue needing support and parenting. The public needs to learn more about mental illness and disorders through real people, not dramatic embellishments in films.

This show is a hoax
artillerylee20 February 2019
The show is a hoax she's clearly acting and added sound effects and dramatic montages and soundbits show that even if she does have this disorder she's still just looking for attention and A&E is once again trivializing mental health disorders. It's a terrible show about an issue that this lady may or may not have.

The Reality of DID
ashlynl-2138113 September 2020
I myself have DID and am facebook friends with Jane. She did a great job demonstrating the realities of living with DID, the hardships but also the strength and resilience. She is a fantastic mom and her representation being so public is a step forward to de-stigmatizing DID.

Jane is brave but this is somewhat bs
vmawiggins25 February 2020
I have had all these conflicted parts too from years of severe abuse, bit all these parts were still me Virginia. Sometimes I didn't remember things. I used to have no memories from 13 and younger, I suffered from violent nightmares and my emotions were all sorts of out of control, and have done treatment , but this whole thing with naming the parts and then headaches when the parts shift I feel is fake and I feel these psychologists have no clue.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow. How in the world can anyone give this show such low ratings?! I'm never on here but made the effort to rate this show because it blew my MIND. Here is a woman who is really suffering.

She's a sweet, kind, and "normal" girl that dealt with what was, I'm sure, horrific abuse, and because of those abusers she can't live in the real world. She wants to, but her personalities make it impossible. She's not a crazy person, or serial killer (as many DID people are shown), she's just a girl who's had to play the hand she was dealt.

In this first episode she tries to get a job but it triggers many of her personalities in a bad way, because it's in a bar with men, and she is realizing that she needs to find a job that all her "parts" are okay with.

She showed about 6 or her personalities during this episode and I was glued to my set. I've never seen something like this. Kudos to her for being brave enough to do a reality show about her life. It's gotta be a huge challenge, but also as her therapist said, it seems to be therapeutic for her too which makes me happy. Go Jane!

This is bs
vmawiggins26 February 2020
I have suffered. Yes it made an emotional wreck and yes I had to go through therapy in order to let go of all the baggage I was carrying, but my so called different parts were all me. They were just different defence mechanisms I used in certain cenarios inorder to get the outcome I wanted. Yes sometimes I would not remember, but it's just because children who go through severe abuse often learn to check out and go into auto pilot. The whole headache thing and feeling a different part coming out is straight bull and why the therapist has her naming them as if they are different people is encouraging her to stay in a different reality therefore promoting the continuance of mental health issues. This show is so bad the only reason I gave it a three is I'm not sure if this girl is really trying to brave and is just very easily influenced by others suggestions if so very sad for a therapist to take advantage of it.

Such a well-done show on a little known subject!
helenlaibach15 March 2019
This show was very well done, shedding light on a disorder that very few know enough about. It was done with incredible compassion while still chronicling the struggles in a real manner. Seriously hope there will be more seasons!

Inspiring Show
daniellesantoro-9669715 March 2019
Jane is an inspiration to me as someone who is living a struggling with mental illness. People do not realize how difficult it is to live this way and then to also have to deal with the stigma. Jane is breaking the silence, going where no one has gone before on TV and helping to take down the stigma behind mental health. Her voice and this show speaks for us all. Thank you so much Jane for your bravery and for being my inspiration!!!!!

Not Authentic
BimboKay3 February 2019
I sat through one episode and canceled recording the rest. Why does "Jane" know so much about all her "Others"? Do they each share everything with her--and with each other? I'm too skeptical and cynical for a "documentary" that raises too many questions. I'm a "general public" who does NOT think of "DID" as a dangerous or criminal condition. Generalizing us isn't fair.

I feel like I connected well with the real life of Jane. I had some sexual trauma as a child and I found The Many Sides of Jane to be very theraputic. Please bring her back for more shows.

Not 100% Genuine...
LoveFilmYesterday20 August 2022
I liked it overall for somewhat educational purposes. Like other people who reviewed, I could tell that there was acting, also. The narration is one example of that when describing the changes that were really obvious. That was the acting part, because of the dramatic head grabbing and skipped recording voices. That was fake.
