- When a stand-up comic's life is turned upside-down with the unexpected death of his wife, the only logical next step is to bring his 12 year-old son on the road with his group of misfit comedians who are part of his tour.
- Fred has spent the majority of his son Max's life on the road. He has a wonderful relationship with his wife, Lila, but a distant one with Max. When we first meet Fred he is getting ready to do his last gig before coming home. He gets a devastating call while onstage. At the shiva (Jewish memorial service) for Lila, we meet the immediate family. They are quite the cast of characters. Grandmothers with their own agendas, Fred's sister-in-law and her children recovering from a heinous divorce with their own damage, and Fred's agent with bad news regarding work. Fred needs to hit the road for a summer tour; Max convinces Fred to take him along on the adventure.
They travel the tour together while bonding in hotels and comedy clubs where anything that might go wrong by having a child in adult situations does. Finally, the group makes it to Chicago. Fred reconnects Max to their hometown, where Fred met his wife and Max was born. At their last gig of the tour ghosts of altercations past, in the form of the crazy bikers, resurface and threaten to derail the comedians' finale. After an interesting and enlightening altercation, Fred and his cohorts triumph. As the tour commences Fred, with Max by his side, lovingly spread his late wives ashes at their initial meeting spot on Oak Street Beach. Immediately after, Fred gets a phone call from his agent that he has booked a series! Elated that he no longer has to be separated from his son Fred feels that he and Max finally have a chance. Three months later Fred is staring in his own successful tv show called "Diamond Life". Having reconciled the past he and Max look forward to their future.
