A must watch malaysian tamil movie.
vinozhhl30 January 2022
Unlike other ghost or paranormal movies, POOCHANDI manage to keep hooked on the screen with different adaptation in the series. A gripping storyline with the performance delivered by both new and senior actors best conveyed through entire film.

A benchmark for Malaysian Tamil cinema!
navenkumarselva30 March 2022
I watched the much anticipated Poochandi in cinemas. Honestly, I did not expect much as I was conscious of watching a Malaysian Tamil movie. No offence, for a few valid reasons, the bar is always set very low for my personal liking.

However, Poochandi actually hit the top and brought me to unexpected zones which left me in awe. This is a huge leap in the Malaysian Tamil industry and easily the best Malaysian Tamil film.

I would give it to the whole team simply because of the story and screenplay. Apart from that, the deep research on the history of Kadaram is something very commendable. Director JK Wicky has a great passion for Tamil history, especially the history of Kadaram.

The revelations at the end was something which most are blind of. This movie is technically and aesthetically sound. Despite all the praises, I felt that the ending should have been more elaborate with a proper conclusion. This is my only gripe.

Poochandi is the benchmark for Malaysian Tamil movies! A must watch.

Local storytelling at it's best.
vinoth-madivanan4 June 2022
I didn't have the chance to watch Poochandi in theatres, thankfully it's available on Astro First.

Firstly, I love the concept that was put forward in this film. Love how the director managed to fuse ancient practices, ancient civilization, religion and Malaysia seamlessly into this gripping story. This film is not messing around with that usual elements that you find in local films.

It feels very genuinely Malaysian without having any South Indian filmmaking flavor that we are all accustomed to, hence the result is very impressive. I can see the amount of research that went into crafting this story.

Overall it's a stunning Malaysian horror film. I won't say it's as good as South Indian films because I believe South Indian films are not a benchmark for filmmaking. We Malaysian have so much of stories to be told: that's unique to us and our ancestry. After Jagat, Poochandi is truly a benchmark for local made films.

Kudos to Wickneswaren Kaliaperumal for this impressive work. I should've watched it in theatres.

Easy 8/10 for me.

Did not work for me
ganesh-jayaraman5 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Making was excellent. No issues with the acting and props and other technical details of the film. The story was neither fulfilling nor convincing for me. It left more unanswered questions as I tried to ponder the story over!! So, it did not work for me.

Good - technical details, acting, props on the background, editing and photography.

Not so good - slow screenplay, story logic eg - 1) how did the kalapirar reign in Tamil Nadu affect kadaram or Malaysia?

2) After so many years, who does that soul (poochandi) want to take revenge on - why does that soul want to return to Tamil Nadu ?; 3) why no punishment for Deepak for not returning the coin to the right place and instead selling it in an antique shop?

You'll REGRET not watching this movie in CINEMA!!!
vwisnu14 February 2022
Best movie & a lot of hardwork got in, to bring out this masterpiece! Each frame speaks on their own! Each props tells you a story - I watched this movie 5 times and each time I discover a hidden treasure between frames! The storyline itself - MINDBLOWING, proud to see our country's amazing history & connections to one of the earliest dynasty, and how our ancestors started in such a early ages which leads to the evolution we are enjoying today! No better way in bringing this untold stories to the younger generation. Poochandi is different on it's own and it's a new beginning!!! Kudos to the legend JK Wicky! GO & WATCH ONLY AT THEATRE.

Surprisingly very good!
bukan-ijam25 November 2022
I'm a Malay and a Muslim. I watch this movie with no expectations. It was trending in Netflix and Imdb reviews is good. Was rather skeptical but meh, I just watch it. Within minutes, I got hooked. In the end, I was blown away.

The best thing about this movie is the story and writings. So stop reading about the plot. Cinematography is also good. The acting by leads is good.

Few things this movie can improve. The setting/house is a bit unrealistic. Coin seller living in that kind of house? Also, it feels a bit low budget. But thats ok. Could use better supporting cast.

Overall, if you like horror movie with good story, this movie is recommended.

Underwhelming
Ansango31 July 2023
POOCHANDI begins with a very basic setup: some guys play with an Ouija board and after that, an evil spirit starts to haunt them. For the entirety of the first half, it remains a fairly standard ouija-horror tale, which slowly changes its track into a promising mystery in its second half. The problem arises when the mystery starts to unravel, and the way it's written, it's bound to leave a sour taste in your mouth. Random revelations are getting intertwined into the narrative unnecessarily and pointless twists start to roll one after the other without any organic buildup. Some things are so sudden and inorganically introduces that it completely disconnects you from the film. The backstory of the spirit is exciting and could have salvaged the film, but here the writing completely drops the ball. The ending is also very disappointing and too abrupt.

All in all, I expected a lot from it and it wasn't even half as good as I imagined it to be. Even if I had watched it with low expectations, its poor writing and the lousy climax were bound to leave me disappointed. It's a horror movie with good ideas but a very lacklustre execution.

I regret it took me long to watch the movie. A gripping storyline, amazing cast & the subtle touch on Malaysian history, more than proud of watching this movie getting the recognition it should. I loved how they connected each dots towards the end. In the midst of commercial, masala Malaysian movies, more than proud to watch movies like Poochandi. Dear Malaysians especially Malaysian Indians do watch this movie in your nearest theatre.. πŸ’ͺπŸ‡²πŸ‡Ύ

Fantabulous! πŸ‘ŒπŸΎ
malathimohan15 February 2022
After almost 3 years, went to theatre yesterday for Poochandi.

It was mind-blowing! I loved everything about the movie. Felt like I was on emotional rollercoaster. It was a nail-biting experience. BGM - vere level.

The efforts and hard work of each and everyone involved are commendable. Actors - omg, exceptional!

Logan Nathan I was super impressed! πŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎπŸ‘πŸΎ

I didn't wanna leave the theatre after the movie ended. Waited till the making of and song ended before I left.

After coming out, my brother asked me how was the movie. I kept quiet cos I couldn't find the right words. I told him that I would happily watch the movie again immediately if I can. I don't have to wait for a few day to watch it again. That is how much I love the movie.

I went with super high expectation cos I read/heard alot of positive reviews about the movie. But the movie exceeded my expectations! 😍

Congratulations Wickneswaren Kaliaperumal and team! A very well made movie! You just raised the par of the Malaysian Tamil Movies. I personally strongly feel that this movie deserves an international recognition.

Thank you so very much for the feast! Thank you so much for the hard work and detailed work. Can't wait for Poochandi 2! πŸ’™ Super excited!

A movie that should be watched in theatres, atleast once πŸ‘πŸΎ

A Spectacular and Brilliantly made movie
viknarajan14 February 2022
This one of the movie that should not be missed this year!

Poochandi is a brilliantly researched and written story, awesome acting and top notch cinematography as well as background sound.

When I first saw the poster for Poochandi, that is when I intrigued me to know more about this movie

Then each character's got their own posters and I loved it and decided that this movie must be good. How good?? I didn't know until I saw the reviews pouring in from left and right on the social media. Few days later, the hostel scene was shown on Facebook and I decided that this is a must watch movie. The "Poochandi" character looks bloody good. The makeup was stunning and scary at the same time. Another good job by the team.

Finally, I watched the movie and oh damn.... I was totally in awe of the movie right from the beginning. There was never a dull moment throughout the movie.

Cinematography was top notch. No two words about that. First class in my humble opinion.

What made this movie very authentic and real was the dialogues. It was very Malaysian. There was no "attempts" to copy Indian cinema style.

This was a "pakka" local Tamil slang with Malay word mix in between. That's how we talk. πŸ˜…There were a few genuine laugh out loud moments. I was laughing so loud.

All the main characters in the movie deserves a special mention. They were totally awesome! Every single one of them deserves an award. So natural with their dialogue delivery, face expression and body language. I don't want to mention specific names as they were all superb .

Background score plays a big part in thriller movies and they did an exceptional work. The audio was crystal clear and brought the movie one step higher with their music. Thankfully there wasn't any songs as that would have been a deal breaker. The song "Poochandi Varaan" during the end credit was too good. It still stuck in my mind until now. " Pochandi Varaan!!!... Pochandi Varaan!!!"

Director Wicky seems to have taken some time to do thorough research on his story as evident in the movie. Everything that was shown and explained seemed believable. The locations, the coin (one of the main "character" in the movie), camera angles were marvellous. Kudos to the director for writing such and engaging story with twists thrown a couple of times and I was like "What the hell just happened??". Brilliantly written. Brilliant..I am still in awe.

Seriously hoping there would be a sequel to this movie as there is a couple of questions that left unanswered in my mind at the end of the movie. Obviously, I can't post the question here as it would be a huge spoiler. Hopefully, if the makers happen to read this, I can ask them directly. πŸ˜…

As a conclusion, this is a movie that should not be missed by all Malaysians and any movies lovers no matter if you understand Tamil or not. ( English and Malay subtitles are available).

I hope the movie will have a long long run in the theaters. It's already 3 weeks since the first screening. Go and watch it soon before it's too late!

In the Year 2022, one of Malaysian Tamil movie is poochandi. The debut director Wickneswaren Kaliaperumal who is passionated in ancient research came out with historical based triller/ghost kind of story. Splendid work by all the casts. Twist by twist and the unexpected ending made the movie on top of bar. A must watch movie, please go to nearest theatre and support this finest work of Malaysian film.

Exceptional mind blowing movie
arvinraj-6716014 February 2022
For those who say Malaysian won't make good Tamil movies, it's time to change your perspective. This movie will make you understand how capable Malaysian directors on producing films. Astonishing contents, great acting and wonderful visuals will give complete satisfaction. Brilliant work from director, made me doubt "is this really his debut film?" Not a single minute feel waste and felt completely worth it. This movie will be an example for next 10 years at least.

Poochandi - Solid
mahathma_j14 February 2022
This movie is quite a bone chilling experience and highly engaging horror thriller that I ever came across once again surprises with high octane suspense.

Thrill-seeking journalist Murugan heads to Malaysia to look for ordinary folks with odd stories, when he started to discover an interesting story he engaged with it and viewers too. His every question point of view are representing audiences mind voice. This idea of storytelling made this movie more interesting.

Movie is technically brilliant.. The dark penumbral and melancholic ambiance is actually adding many chills while the story goes on Another beautiful thing is the perfect plot twists which are certainly non predictable and quite intelligent, the character to story development is intense strong and to the point.

Overall a great watch..

Grips you by the end of the seat!
kogie-1904614 February 2022
The movie is a perfect cocktail of suspense, thriller, right amount of humor and well curated plot twists. The screenplay is genius and the director definitely took his time on moving the story to grip us on the seat. I dont recall having any moment of boredom, my eyes were literally glued to the scene. The casting was perfect and steered well with each developed character. Specifically, Tinesh Sarathi needs a special mention, as his acting was so effortless. May it be the production value, the art, treatment of the movie everything was on the dot. My biggest jaw dropping moment was for the aound design, it was stunning and original foley work was done by a meticulous team from Soundniverse. The sound played an important role to give the right amount of goosebumps despite not having any jumpscares (thank god). In a nutshell, Poochandi is a new bar set for local tamil movies in Malaysia breaking the common stereotypes to have well known casts, romance scenes and songs. It broke the barrier and stood strong as a flavourful and quality content. 2 thumbs up, a must watch!

engages till the end and many goosebumps
meenaal-600-47495311 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
From the beginning till the end kept me engaged. Practical feelings/emotions of each character. Connection in the end was acceptable, There was no typical horror scenes like seeing ghost in the mirror. Surprised that people can be greed even if they are in their death bed. Overall people are greedy ghost was unselfish, which made me laugh about the world. In cinemas it would have been great experience, but I could only watch it from Netflix, I liked the movie because it was low budget and very less characters, no lag, engaging, I could connect to the story, basically with Tamil Nadu history, one time watch.

Thanks, Meena.

priyankaraj-6422115 February 2022
You don't want to miss watching this movie.

Here's my take on Poochandi; i went for the first show without any sort of expectation as i thought it'll be a normal Malaysian tamil horror movie (which we all know the outcome) but this movie blew me away till the last second, it gave me goosebumps i just didnt want to get out from my seat even when the movie ended. The next day i booked my tickets AGAIN to watch it.

Movie script was amazing and sound was awesome. I have to rate this movie a 9.8/10 literally. Going to watch it for the 3rd time this weekend. Totally worth my cash.

Poochandi the paradigm shift in Malaysian Film Industry
pbanu-3815615 February 2022
Poochandi By JK Wicky.... Congratulations to Mr. Director and the team ...Number of Malaysian films been coming all these years and Malaysian Indians has been giving their support that so much of improvement seen in recent Malaysian Indian film industry. Poochandi is one step ahead with ironic way of telling the story which has many wow factors..Many times we have heard our elderly scaring children by saying 'Ah Ha Poochandi varan' The director of this Poochandi has braided those wow factors intelligently with immensed creativity. A lot of ancient as well as old collections were highlighted besides the coin along the story. All the reminders in story on history specifically about Kadaram the fact that existence of "Kannuku teriyatha nadhi"very interesting. Each and every character in the movie have done their part very naturally with brilliant expressions moulded well by the director just enough for what the story required. Those fear factors the story carries impresses however I personally had goosebump at three scenes in the movie. First when Malika woke up to see the Poochandi enjoying the dripping blood from her finger, second when the priest told Malika that she invaded into privacy of a soul unintentionally and third Murugan's father told about the coin and the connection to Pandians era which deep inside remind us our root. The communication between the three friends and the coin was just little fun at first then as the story goes it brings in little curiousity within us. Never once struck my mind there is a selfishness in the friendship that leads to lost. That one is really a turning point to the story. Wow to the sound system, the background score and technical aspects excellently delivered for each situation. Love it. This movie is surely a paradigm shift for the Malaysian Indian Film Industry...I believe the director and the team have delivered their very best that we audience have much satisfaction and appreciate it .Thankyou for giving us this movie and we are looking forward for more in the future..Well done Poochandi teamπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ #Wickneswaren Kaliaperumal.
