For inspiration Federico listened to classical music by Krzysztof Penderecki and combined the artwork of Mark Kostabi, Edvard Munch and Vincent van Gogh to create the films look, ''I want the film to feel like split teeth''.
During the making of the movie Federico was going through a divorce and was in a very dark place. Empire magazine requested him for an interview, he agreed only on the condition if he would be asked the same questions as put to Stanley Kubrick during the making of The Shining, they declined.
As Federico was editing the film he was visited by Amy Winehouse's ghost in a dream, he first met her in 2008. ''I originally ran into her at Glastonbury, I was being kicked out of the backstage kitchen by Michael Eavis and she stopped him and we got chatting, I told her I was a bit nervous about wanting to make my first feature film, and she encouraged me to not listen to anyone, to keep my legs open!''
