Lovely

I hope they make a third season of this show, cause I really enjoyed the first two. It is a bit like "cable girls" but softer, musical and Portuguese spoken. The views of Rio de Janeiro and the music are wonderful.

They ruined it in the last episode
marcos-7393323 April 2019
This show really charmed me. The visual appearance has a magic to it that goes beyond the beautiful people and the elegance of Old Rio. The music is captivating. The story arises organically from the characters who you actually begin to care about.

But they ruined the whole thing in episode 7. They traded in the charm of the original six episodes for hackneyed plot devices and in-your-face editing. The characters start to be moved around like game pieces instead of the story being derived from them. The ending is horribly cliche.

I don't know why companies choose to ruin good shows so badly, but the first six episodes are well worth the watch.

So underrated!
alexandragon21 June 2020
This is by far the best Netflix Brazilian show ever made, and not because of old Rio or Bossa Nova, but because of how it portraits women struggles in Brazil during those dark times,... their search for freedom and independence!!, how it also talks about racism and how hard were black women lives in domestic services... I've never seen these kind of stories in any Latin American soup opera. I just loved it, I felt so identified with the characters.

This show is remarkable. You have to watch it in its native language to capture the true essence of the show. The plot, the scenery, and the music is absolutely incredible and makes one want to travel to Rio.

Bossa Nova
savedloren27 June 2020
I just finished the 2nd series and came here to see when it was released. Sad to see it was so recent, because for me that means I have a while to wait for the "if and when" Netflix releases Season 3! I enjoyed this series very much. The music is the focal point around the storyline. The subtitles weren't an issue, by the end of the series you will for sure know some basic portugués words. The series offers a good blend of real-life issues that are relatable such as love, family, dreams, betrayal, politics, discrimination, friendships and happiness.

Soap bar, modern intentions perfume!

We all like to go back home to eat our grand mother soup. They have a winning recipe that makes us feel good without questions. If the template/model/recipe is being use over and over throughout time for various traditions, why cinema and/or tivi couldn't do the same?

Coisa Mais Linda doesn't have the pretention to reinvent a genre, as @giliarde_berges seems to focus on. I mean no disrespect but I don't think this is the intention: "love Brazil, I love Bossa Nova, and Rio's beauty is breath taking". Of course we can all agree on that. That's only the container in which the story is being grown.

The strength of the character Malu, vividly fighting for her independance and the respect she deserve as a woman is, I think the real deal about this show.

The everlasting social class war, the secret life everyone has, the Belief to avoid raising our childrens as we were raised... that's some of those character's struggle.

Do I have to say It should be watch in original language...

Getting way less than expected
sanda_moroianu23 June 2020
Having visited Rio a few years back, I was interested in watching what it must have looked like in the late '50's, not only the posh areas, but also the favelas. In this respect the series doesn't disappoint, I guess. When in Rio I heard several renderings of "Girl from Ipanema"- apart from that of Jobim and de Moraes- one better than the other, so why choose an English version in the opening? The theme of women's discrimination both in the home and in the work place is immensely generous, but the authors chose to treat it rather lightly; another missed opportunity. Speaking of women's rights, it seems very shallow to cast only women with obvious breast implants, which is- for those times- clearly inappropriate, no matter how fond of plastic surgery people are nowadays. It's ludicrous! Watching the fifth episode, I can't shake the impression that it tends to slide into the classic clichés of the telenovelas. I wouldn't be surprised to abandon watching somewhere in the sixth...

Lovely second season! Deeper stories. It is like a trip to the past where women fought for their rights and aspirations.

One of the most captivating series I've watched
ursuladuke30 August 2021
I never thought I'd say this for a Brazilian show, with cheesy soap operas in mind, but I LOVED it! Amazing vibe, music, cinematography, settings, costumes and gorgeous, charismatic protagonists with very interesting and inspiring stories to tell, in those dark, racist and chauvinistic times. Ligia come back... Absolutely binge and 3rd season-worthy!

Gaps and poetic licenses
patsario14 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Although I must admit the story is charming, and pure nostalgia for a carioca like me, there are odd things in this series. For example, the main characters are 50/50 partners in their jazzclub. But whilst the white rich girl who had no financial help from her wealthy father is capable soon enough to move to a beachfront apartment (one of the most expensive addresses in Rio), her black partner keeps living in the favela with her sister, who by the way works at the club. No explanation is hinted on this discrepancy. Also, many crowded beach scenes meant as Ipanema Beach actually show far away beaches that were practically deserted and very hard to reach in the 60's (one can easily tell by the islands in the horizon and the much shorter sand stretch). Same goes to the club's neighborhood, with a colonial architecture typical of old downtown Rio, that passes as very close to the beach, another poetic license of the series.

This series had a lot of potential to create something new and beautiful, but it was lost in a weak love story that uses the Bossa Nova scene to attract the public
amandasrufino28 March 2019
I watched "Coisa mais linda" this week with little expectation, but even then I was disappointed in the first minute. As a Brazilian watching a Brazilian series that aims to portray Rio in the 50's, it was extremely disappointing to hear the English version of "Girl from Ipanema" at the opening. The original version, composed in Portuguese and interpreted by Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes is incredible and would perfectly match the theme of the series. It struck me as a frustrated attempt to attract audiences from other countries to show the glamor of Rio in the 50's (which looks nothing like Rio today).

The series, in its proposal, tried to sell a little of the birth of Bossa Nova, but could not represent it. Not that the issue of the difficulties of being a woman in the 50's is a bad theme. As a woman, I find it very interesting and important. However, focusing on it and using Bossa Nova as a simple makeup do colour the scenary, without better exploring its origins and music, and focusing only on a romantic comedy-style love story combined with drama for the main couple weakens the series. It should have gone deeper!!! There was so much space and so many opportunities!!!

In addition, the series lacks creativity. The theme of a woman trying to start life alone and independently in a sexist society has already been the script of many other series. Not to mention that the girl from rich and traditional family, spoiled, trying to do something that goes against the morals of his family in the 50's very reminiscent of the series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", by Amazon (which I highly recommend!). When the protagonist's was on stage, trying to be funny and swearing, it seemed like a bad copy Midge, the Mrs. Maisel. However, the character of Maria Casadevall is infinitely less charismatic than that played by Rachel Brosnahan.

But in the end, I'm not going to lie. It is kinda fun to watch.

Love this Show
denise_actress24 June 2020
I love the music, the contrast setting of where the poor Brazilians, the subject of their racially different backgrounds but yet the two lead women are able to be best friend and business partners. The subplots are soap opera enough to keep you interested. My only complaint is why are the series so short.. Only six episodes for S2 ?!
