It has its moments...
jmbwithcats29 July 2018
Watching the horror movie Charlotte on Hulu... it's not great, let me start by prefacing it right up front... it's about a babysitter who is abducted by the family doll and forced to watch bad horror stories... and they got that right... but one of the last stories is about a private showing of a horror movie entitled Foaming at the Mouth Part 2... and the concession girl is very hungry and pregnant... and when the place gets locked down to start the feature presentation, everyone starts rambunctiously throwing food up at the stage and she starts secretly eating it... definitely my favorite part of the movie.

"Don't get your tighty whiteys in a twist"
hwg1957-102-26570417 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Like an Amicus anthology film from the 1970's but not as good, this is about a tied up babysitter forced to watch a slew of short horror films by a creepy doll called Charlotte. In films like these if one vignette isn't good at least the next one might be but the eight little tales in 'Charlotte' are all routine straying into dullness sometimes. A couple of the stories end very weakly. It looks good most of the time so that is a plus but the acting is mainly forgettable. The only things that stay in your mind afterwards are the sinister dolls.

The casting director should be shot

There are child actors you don't want to hit with an iron. This movie doesn't have any of them.

A special, special film
tristannibbe30 July 2018
This is a very very special movie. I am a fan of bad movies. Like most fans of bad movies I know that there is a scale of quality, it starts at genuinely good, then just bad, and then finally so bad that it is good. This movie never even flirted with being good, it skipped past being just bad, and somehow attained a whole new level that I was unaware of until now. So bad that it causes an existential crises.

I watched this with my GF, who is also a fan of bad movies, and all that she could say afterward was "That movie really challenged my psyche."

I would have to agree.

About halfway through watching the movie I found myself floating a few feet above my body, watching myself watch Charlotte. I then had an out of body experience, out of that out of body experience, where I watched myself, watching myself watch Charlotte. This cycle continued until my mind completely shattered. I do believe that my mental state is irreparably damaged by this movie, the bright side being that I believe I can now qualify for disability, although I worry that having seen Charlotte may count as a pre-existing condition.

The one brightside to this movie is that it did restore my faith in God, because this can only be the result of divine retribution for our sins.

You can do so much better!
Wally-E16 January 2018
Instead of using my time on this earth explaining why this movie should be skipped, I will oped in for telling you things, that you as a person can do in the same amount of time.

Cooking is a good trade to have, if you can make a good meal it will impress most guests you have over for the evening; one such dish that will woo people is ratatouille. This dish takes about one and one half hour to make, 45 minutes to prepare and 45 minutes to cook in the oven. If pulled off correctly, this is a meal that can turn even the most hardened of souls to an old softy.

Spending one hour and 30 minutes deep cleaning your house can and will feel gratifying. Not only because you now will live in a nice clean house, but because you will only have to spend just twenty minutes a week keeping it clean after its first deep clean.

Finally, watch two episodes of your favorite show, it will make you feel infinitely better about yourself than watching this movie.

Horrifyingly Awful
harleysbatman15 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Some nights, me and my fiancee pick a random movie on Netflix to watch. It can be anything; any genre but usually they're Horror movies and the likes. We go into the movie knowing that they're usually cheap, quickly made B Movies and so we know what to expect and aren't shocked when they turn out to be really bad. In fact, we kind of like it when they turn out to be stinkers. I mean, just because a movie isn't a Hollywood Blockbuster doesn't mean there was no effort or value in it. Charlotte, sadly, does not have anything going for it; other than it was actually made...

So the plot of the movie is centered around a teenager with attitude who is babysitting and gets held hostage by an evil doll, after the kid goes to bed. Does this doll kill her or torture her? Yes and no. She is forced to watch a series of Twilight Zone-like min stories (that have nothing to do with anything and often do not have a twist or lesson to be learned) and then gets turned into a doll. I should also note that when the babysitter mentions the doll to the kid's parents, they say they have no doll. Yet, the twist of the movie seems to imply that the doll changes every week and turns the newest teenage brat into a doll. Not only that but their child is a boy. So, either the parents are not very observant or they're in on it. The doll is giving them a 10% cut perhaps? I want to also state that the title of the movie, Charlotte, itself, has NOTHING to do with the story or main character. Charlotte is simply the name of a character in the first mini movie. She has a minute of screen time and maybe one or two lines of dialogue. So yes, Charlotte isn't even the name of the damn evil doll!

There's not too many good things to say about Charlotte. I'm struggling to find some positive aspects. Well, like I said the damn thing got made so that's a win for the film makers. Some of the actors seem to be enjoying their roles as well. They might not be the very best actors, or even good actors but you can tell that they are trying. Some of the mini movies are mildly interesting (at the start) and might even get a scare out of someone. That's all the praise I have for this film...

So many negative marks for this movie! Where to start?! Well the acting is really bad. I'm guessing these actors are just starting out or maybe friends of the directors, so I should go easy on them but when the film is so bland, these bland actors did not help. The mini movie format is cliche, but that doesn't make it a bad thing. Had these mini movies been decent or entertaining, it would have been acceptable. The problem is that these mini movies were god awful and many of them made no sense. There's one in particular, about a man who cuts his fingers off to feed...Satan?...I guess?...and then is eating cookies and milk, all happy. The end. I mean, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ABOUT?! In these mini movies, only ONE was decent (or at least made sense/tried to make sense) and even then, that's just in comparison to the duds that came before. Being the least smelliest turd in the bunch is not an accomplishment. Back in the main story, there is no real plot or lesson to be learned. I mean, the girl babysitting doesn't seem too evil or bad. She is just a regular teen...but this EVIL doll must not like teenagers that eat pizza, have sexual desires, get acne and hate authority. Jealous perhaps? Was she not offered a slice of pizza or penis? This movie had a big opportunity to be entertaining but it missed the mark!

I give this movie 2 stars for being completed and for the actors that actually tried...but other than that, I can't recommenced this film be watched unless you're willing to accept that you'll waste an hour of your life and you like scratching your head...

Maybe a C Movie
ButterscotchKitty3 December 2017
Charlotte was a way to waste an hour and half while wondering what kind of stuff the movie was going to show next. I was hoping it was going to surprise me with turning into a B-horror, but it kept dropping lower every time I got excited thinking it was getting better.

The main story is that a babysitter is being slowly messed with by a doll. The doll is showing the babysitter movies while other changes are happening.

The audience gets to see snippets of what is happening to the babysitter, just enough to figure out what is going on. And the movie mostly focuses on the one-shots that the doll is "showing" the babysitter. You see the babysitter, a movie, the babysitter, a movie, and so on.

The whole doll thing is lame. And the first story is muffled at times. Some stories I'd rate a B, some a C, and some - just lame. The acting is off or forced, and sometimes you can tell the actors are just having fun instead of completely in the story.

There are some scenes with a bit of blood, and one with a pinch of gore.

Overall though, it's a weird way to spend an hour and a half.

One of the worst movies if not the worst movie I have ever seen. I would rather sit through every installment of Sharknado consecutively with my eyes pinned open while I have the flu

Sooo bad! Don't pay to see this.
trueoreo24 June 2018
This movie was sooo bad! Like honestly it was the longest twenty three minutes of my life! Let's take 15- 20 people who I don't know from eve and throw into a movie and give them short stories that make no sense. At first the stories were funny and your like oh cool this is like "tales from the crypt" or "tales from the hood" ok cool! NOPE! WRONG! Then after a few laughs you wonder if the movie is close to ending and it's not!? Then your like "what's going on here?!" You want to stop watching, but you pray for a better story there isn't one to be seen just trash stacked on top of more trash. Don't pay to see this please don't! The first 5 minutes were fun, but after that you're so over it!

Can there be any worse movie than this?

Either the writer of this movie was drunk out of his skull or he just had guts to put out a really bad movie!!

Why the hate?
xicute25 August 2018
It's stories are short and too the point. Some I wish were more fleshed out coz they had, what I'd considered to be, good premises. I found myself questioning so much throughout this movie but I was entertained. Each story is 5 to 10 minutes ...if even. Like the ABC's of death but more horror focused.

A horrible, HORRIBLE movie
darksyde-6350827 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
There are no words to describe just how horrible this movie truly is. Based on the art work, and the movie description alone, you'd think that it was another generic, possibly interesting killer doll movie. WRONG. A babysitter is tied up and forced to watch several vignettes on tv by a haunted doll. None of the short stories are any good and are all terribly acted. One wonders how the baby sitter was even subdued by the doll, since it looks like its about to fall apart, and since it watches the tv right next to her the entire time, why she just doesn't send it flying across the room. I felt like the baby sitter after I finished this movie. I wanted to kill myself. Avoid this one at all cost

Horrible and makes zero sense
CourtenaySutton2 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I thought it would be a creepy doll movie, but it ends up that the doll ties the babysitter up on the couch and makes her watch different mini stories of people being tormented. Effects are horrible. It just doesnt make sense what so ever. Everytime a mini story is over it goes back the doll and the babysitter and everytime she has stitches, her legs, arms and mouth are sewn shut.

The doll is showing these mini movies on the tv.

Overall this movie makes no sense and it is poorly written and done. It isn't a creepy movie, it's more of a c rated film done.

Cheesey
wandernn1-81-6832742 December 2019
This movie is some sort of horror / comedy anthology movie centered around a doll.

It's not good tho. Altho there is one segment about 'cookies' that is mildly amusing for a moment.

-1 Bad writing

-1 Not entertaining

-1 Bad effects with the Doll(s)

Don't bother
lisakelendria-549063 March 2021
I don't normally write reviews but I was compelled with this one. This movie is about a doll who holds hostage and tortures a teen babysitter, forcing her to watch an anthology of movies whilst being tied up. The acting throughout is so bad and none of the stories make any sense? I kept watching hoping they would tie together somehow, but instead I realised sadly it's time I'll never get back. Instead I was left scratching my head in bemusement and wishing I'd watched paint dry instead!

Greeting and Salutations
nogodnomasters16 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Charlotte is a collection of short films previously released by Patrick Rea, director, producer, and writer. As a conduit he uses a babysitter held captive by a doll, forcing her to watch the shorts tied to a sofa (perhaps a statement in itself). The first short was the best feature, a 2014 production called 'Counter Parts." There is another doll story. The shorts' endings were attempts at cute and clever, some better than others.

Guide: F-word, brief sex, no nudity

Psychological Horror
meggenkramer3 March 2019
This movie is more like an asortment of horror story short films. If you like horror and shows like Black Mirror or Twilight Zone you may like this film. Otherwise, it may seem like a waste of time.

The Chest
starrett-153116 March 2019
I own the table sets that belong with that chest. When I went back to purchase it, the chest was gone! Please tell me I still have a chance to get it. It was heartbreaking but now it's been it has been a prop in the movie and that makes me want it more than ever.
