Its beautifully shot, each and every scene is mesmerising. Extremely impressed by the direction and screenplay. The background mix is superb,it just blends in with all the scenes. The cast is awesome...great performance. Beautiful depiction of mother son relationship. Post interval 15min was the only negative. Overall very good movie

How I lost my Mother and then Met her
gokscasm17 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Let's just agree to the fact that Vineeth Sreenivasan is a great writer, good director, good singer and a very mediocre actor. He just cannot handle emotional scenes. He simply cannot. His body language is way too lazy.

Sreenivasan is criminally misused in the film. He could have been given a meatier part. Urvashi is just amazing and reminds us of the great actor she is. Need to see more of her in Malayalam cinema. The emotional quotient of this film is pretty damn good when the MOTHER arrives. Again fabulously playes by another veteran actress. I wish they could have not added Vineeth's songs in the background during these scenes.

This Film Lives By Values !!
navinloves6 March 2021
First of all, don't pay attention to negative ratings. They just don't understand how films should be made. Being a filmmaker, I can see all the hard work the team has put in to make this film. I'm don't understand Malayalam but this movie is a blend of many cultures. While majority of the movie is filmed in the divine heritage location like Kolluru, Karnataka they have also covered surrounding areas like Udupi and Western Ghats. There are so many great things about this film - the locations, story, performances, music and sweet yet balanced emotions. The protagonist Vineeth Srinivasan is a legend. He is not just an actor but wears many hats like producer, director, singer, scriptwriter. He has made full justice to his character. While the story is not dramatically different, the making is extra ordinary. Every scene is refreshing. The film lives by its human values. While most films these days promote alcohol, violence, negativity, films like this fills you with lot of positivity. Only when you understand the value of divinity, culture, relations and above all humanity, the world can be a better place.

The open ending made it perfect
rtoac126 May 2019
This is Malayalam language film starring Vineeth Sreenivasan.

Set in Mookambika kshetram, it's a comedy film with the core being the wait of a son of his mother who abandoned him.

The film was getting boring just when Urvashi's entry and comic timing had you in splits!

The music is endearing.

The best part of the film is its unresolved questions, which keeps it realistic. Obviously the mother who abandoned and totally forgot her son deserves no sympathy but for the humanity she showed in at least apologizing to him and ending his wait. Entering the Devi kshetram along with her son to end that vacuum in his life.

But practically put, would such a woman bring trouble to her existing family life for this, most likely not. Hence why the ending the way it is is more credible.

The superb direction and cinematography, touching upon the cultural aspects of Udupi and Mookambika vicinity was a nice touch, which is why I gave it an extra star.

I rated it 10/10 in IMDB.

Capsule Review: Aravindante Athidhikal (3 Stars)
nairtejas27 July 2018
The basic premise of director M Mohanan's Aravindante Athidhikal is not only flawed but one that is cliched, which ultimately takes most of the fun out of his over-dramatic concoction. Vineeth Sreenivasan plays an orphaned young man who runs a motel for his guardian (Sreenivasan) and does petty jobs to earn a living. The fact that his mother left him at the age of 5 still hurts him, unless a woman (Nikhila Vimal), a dancer, enters his life. And that entrance is what makes Aravindante Athidhikal slip into a fantastical territory that inches away and away from realism. The chemistry between these two characters is as unnatural as the mythological undertones in the film. For a moment, it almost felt like I was watching the film inside a temple, surrounded by like-minded pilgrims who would die for their beloved idol but won't bat an eye if a young kid roams around crying for his mum. There is occasional humor in Aravindante Athidhikal that can make you chuckle, thanks to a surprisingly chaming Urvashi, but Vimal's annoying character will compensate for it. Cast performance is generally good, with typecast Aju Varghese, VIjay Raghavan, and Sreenivasan too. That relationships are important is a subject director Anjali Menon recently played with in her 2018 film Koode with some finesse, but in here, the narrative that director Mohanan uses is a bland one. The screenplay has been written as if the audience already know what the exact story and timeline are and should assume things. I understand that fiction can take cinematic liberty, but in Aravindante Athidhikal, liberty is like the oxygen. It is a contrived drama about a story that has been sampled since at least the wheel was invented. Don't waste your time on this where Vineeth Sreeivasan not only plays the lead role but seems to sing repetitive songs throughout the 120-minute running time. TN.

One time watch
padmanabhomaraprabhu14 June 2018
Aravindante athithikal (Aravindan's Guests) is a movie with a simple premise . . The story starts in 1996. Abandoned in Mookambika by his mother at a very young age, Aravindan(Vineeth Sreenivasan) is rescued by Madhavan (Sreenivasan) who runs a small lodge near mookambika temple .

Fast forward 20 years later Aravindan grows up to be do gooder, liked by all those around him and helps madhavan in running the lodge . He has taken a sort of pledge that he will not enter the temple until he meets his mother. There are some comedic scenes thrown in take the story forward (and to get us acquainted with the set of characters ) till the arrival of the heroine.

In comes Girija(Played with aplomb by Urvashi) along with her pretty daughter Varada (Nikhila Vimal) for performing Varada's dance arangettam at Mookambika temple . Our hero is so likeable that within minutes of knowing him Girija decides to cancel her hotel booking and decides to stay at his hotel.(are women so gullible ?).

She is also accompanied by her brother Venu (Prem Kumar after a long hiatus) who vehemently objects this sudden change of mind ( as any practical man would do) but is then persuaded by the offer of a "kuppi' (a poke at mallu obsession with liquor).

Some comic scenes follow ending in Varada getting hospitalized due to a sprained ankle .Doctor advises bed rest of two weeks and so she again ends up in the Aravindans lodge. Now the director has the task of making his heroine fall in love with the hero within this time frame. The clichéd scenes that follow leads finally (the director tries to convince us) for the Varada to fall head over heels in love with aravindan.

After knowing about Aravindans history Varada takes it upon herself to find out His mother . She gets help from the sketches made by him of his early memories(like in memento, congo ) and goes on an investigation .There are some red herrings thrown in to extend screen time like Janaki Subramanium (Sreejaya Nar) a danseuse, ala Shobhana.

Finally She tracks down the real mother of Aravindan and the movie is brought to an emotional but abrupt end.

The basic plot is nothing new . .Young child abandoned finally unites with mother. We had seen so many such movies in the 70s and 80s. The only thing new here is the location of Mookambika beautifully captured by the cinematographer . The movie also has some good songs by Vineeth.

Besides the plot lets discuss the other weak points of the movie(and there are so many). First is the screenplay. The dialogues of the movie are so weak. Even the crucial junctures in the movie including the climax are devoid of well written dialogues .Instead the director relies on soulful bgm (which gets annoying at times) to convey the emotions of the characters to the audience.

Next is the lead actor. Vineeth Sreenivasan is a multifaceted personality and I have nothing against him .He is even talented than his illustrious father. But let's face it , He is no hero material. He simply lacks the charisma to carry a movie on his own. Maybe that's why this movie is crowded with a bevy of character actors to cover for the hero's lack of screen presence.

Speaking of the cast, it's the only movie in recent years in which have seen such incredible waste of acting talent. The supporting cast is too impressive. We have sreenivasan ,kpac lalitha, urvashi, shanthi Krishna, vijayaraghavan, prem kumar, baiju, santosh keezhattoor and Devan. Sadly every one of them are underutilized as the director is too busy focusing on the love affair between the lead pair .. They are also forced to mouth the weak dialogues which hardly match their ability.

Only Urvashi and Aju Varghese makes the most of what was given to them and shines through bringing in much needed levity to an otherwise dull affair . The movie will do well for sure as it targeted at a female audience and will surely leave them teary eyed at the end.

Deserves a one time watch .

Not a great movie. Can watch once and nothing much to explain deep about it. Nothing fresh in it in the story.

I watched this movie after hearing a lot of good comments in social media. And, obviously my expectations were high. Pling! What I felt is: A (below) average movie with a cliche story. I found many of the portrayed circumstances highly illogical too. There are some nice songs which gives you some relief here and there. But overall, I felt this movie not up to the mark.
