Mary Wept starts off strong, but as often happens with series installments that take on religion as the basis for an episode, it falters just when it should be ramping up to the big reveal. Not bad, mind you, but not what it could have been if the well-paved road had not been traveled. Never the less, Murdoch's faith is well handled and serves his post in the Toronto Constabulaty well. Even with its faults, what keeps the rating on the high-side for this episode is the terrific collection of story arc advancements and wonderful character interactions. Watts is in full form as a detective, very different from Murdoch's style but just as effective. George and his lady love are back from Paris and supporting Henry's love life which is another major, and enjoyable, subplot. Finally we learn a little more about the talented and lovely Miss Hart, but are stil quite in the dark about her background and motivations (which seems to promise that there is more to come).
