The class' pet hamster, Boogaloo, has passed away. While Mr. Anthony and most of the students are sad, some of the students have other feelings in addition, from being mad to being lonely. Mr. Anthony wants the children to express their emotions honestly. To deal with the actual death of Boogaloo, Mr. Anthony tells the class a Napkin Man story about a bunch of children nicknamed the butterfly brigade who loved to take pictures of butterflies, they who in the process of their activity learned what to do about the death of a loved one when they found their favorite butterfly, Bright Blue, had died.
