Single Burned Female
Calling this "The Creepy Lady" as a side joke/description, isn't giving this movie justice. This movie begins CAF, or Creepy A.F. and gets creepier from there.
I will say one thing that was SOOO hard for me to get past was the initial premise: Beautiful, perfect single lady who has the ideal apartment, the gorgeous, albeit married boyfriend and independent, for the most part, invites the SCARIEST of loners, Shelly, into her life just to be...the Title Character.
Absolutely NO OFFENSE to burn victims. I couldn't be more sympathetic and never will I understand what they went through. But, this lead, again, the Title Character, isn't just burned on her face, she's also 100% scary with her mannerisms, never washed hair and stalking around the place. It's not the burns on her face that should alert you; it's EVERY OTHER MOTION from her that should tell you to stay miles away.
So, when Beauty meets the Beast (from within) it never made sense to me. Maybe Pretty Blonde was trying to account for her sins by helping someone less fortunate. But she might as well be wearing a Jason Voorhees hockey mask to red flag her right outta your life.
Okay, get past all that. I did and the rest is worth watching. Trust me.
The movie is, as mentioned, the creepiest of movies I've seen in a long while. It begins, seconds in, terrifying before shifting to Wonderland. But, full-stop. That opening is hard to ignore. No spoilers but Horror lovers, rejoice: this is actual HORROR.
The basic synopsis has been somewhat revealed, but a recap with further explanation. Alice does live in a Wonderland: perfect apartment, (married! ☹) boyfriend, friends who care about her and thriving inhouse self-employed business. But, no, she's gotta muck it all up by finding pity on her building's janitor Shelly and inviting Shelly into her life. Slowly but surely, said (movie title) tells Alice right from wrong while the background of the obviously bad girl is revealed. Trust me, nothing in this movie is Tooty Fruity and things escalate with people's obsessions...
If not for this movie setting boundaries and then immediately breaking them tenfold, I would've have been so onboard. Where this movie goes is so disturbing and it's so free to tell you what it is upfront. Gotta respect that.
This movie is wildly upsetting and I 100% admire it for not holding back and truly being open about its surface. Nothing's hidden and that's like making a full horror movie in the daylight. Bravo.
***
Final thoughts: While this movie features mostly females, it has a lot of balls. Even one scene where you can see them beneath underwear (and maybe a glimpse of them in peril.) It flat out tells the movie you're watching up front, doesn't hide the creepy level in the premise and then delivers. I'm left sitting here with my hands up and agreeing with their decisions. Again: Bravo.
