After the ECW World Heavyweight Champion the Sandman (Jim Fullington)-2 Cold Scorpio (Charles Scaggs) match at the original event, which the Sandman won, Raven's Nest (Raven (Scott Levy), Stevie Richards (Michael Manna), the Blue Meanie (Brian Heffron) and Super Nova (Mike Bucci)) crucified the Sandman, with a crown of barbed wire instead of thorns. Paul Heyman and Tod Gordon sent Raven out to the ring to apologize, with Raven breaking character in the process. The footage was not included on the home video release and went unseen until it was included on WWE's The Rise & Fall of ECW (2004). This was one of the two debacles (the other being the match between the Gangstas (New Jack (Jerome Young) and Mustafa (Jamal Mustafa)) and D-Von Dudley (Devon Hughes) and Mass Transit (Eric Kulas), a 17-year-old kid who had lied about his age and about being trained by Walter 'Killer' Kowalski and got to replace Axl Rotten (Brian Knighton) as D-Von's partner at the November 23, 1996 show. New Jack cut Kulas with an Exacto knife and generally beat the hell out of him) that nearly killed ECW's chances of getting on PPV.
Taz (Peter Senerchia) had brought Kurt Angle, fresh off his winning his Gold Medal at the 1996 Olympics, to the show as a guest.
The Eliminators (Perry Saturn and John Kronus) defeated "Dr. Death" Steve Williams and Terry 'Bam Bam' Gordy when Saturn pinned Gordy with an elbow drop from the scaffold that was set up for the Tommy Dreamer-Brian Lee (Brian Harris) main event. This was the first time in four years that Williams and Gordy had teamed in the U.S. (they spent all the time in between in All Japan Pro Wrestling) and their last match as a team.
