Storyline

Lauren orders interviews with Niall's pupils whilst a phone, possibly the victim's, is thrown into the loch. Lauren's key suspect is Leighton Thomas, on life licence for a 20 year old murder but she also believes Craig is hiding something. A dead wolf , released from its sanctuary by Jonjo, is found at his father's abattoir, increasing animosity between Lauren, who orders its closure, and Frank whilst Annie learns that unpleasant doctor Simon Marr, who sacked Niall for being gay, owns to running it over and asking for its incineration at the abattoir. Annie impresses Blake when she finds brain fragments and he persuades Lauren to reinstate her though the brain is not Niall's. Lauren believes she has found a clue to the killer's identity in a newspaper left next to Niall's corpse. Meanwhile Evie and Kieran are run off the road by a mysterious driver and Jonjo goes missing. Starts off slow but ends in style.

DCI Quigley instantly turns her attentions to Leighton Thomas, who it turns out committed a murder twenty years ago. After leaving the interview Leighton contemplates suicide. Quigley puts her faith back in Annie, allowing her back on the team. Annie instantly discovers that Simon had indeed sacked Niall prior to his death. The three youngsters that placed the mock monster's body in the beach are placed in danger, Annie's daughter Evie, and Kieran are almost run off the road, while Jonjo, who's dad owns the abattoir is kidnapped. Craig Petrie is seen throwing a phone into the Loch.

I mentioned in my review of the previous episode that it felt like a Broadchurch styled serial, and that certainly continues. The plot is still somewhat interesting, I just hope it doesn't turn into a story about closeted gay men being killed in a small rural community, a story that should in transpire belongs to a show from twenty years ago.

Plaudits to Siobhan Finneran, who it has to be said is somewhat a cut above everyone in the show, Don Gilet and Alastair Mackenzie both developing into interesting characters.

Overall I enjoyed it, it started off too slowly, but the last ten minutes were fantastic, despite a blip, I still think this will develop into something very good. 6/10
