an anthem

Its pure poetry represents the basic virtue. A song as a very convincing anthem for each life. Or, as necessary kick. Maybe, not the voice, not the impressive sparkles of show are the good points of Freddie Mercury work and Queen legacy but this sort of profound honesty, reflected in a dialogue with the viewer, in direct way. We Are the Champions can be the magnificent proof.

What more can I say about We Are the Champions, written by Freddie Mercury (played by Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody) and performed by Queen, that hasn't already been said. This song crosses all barriers, and in fact I remember hearing a Dutch kid singing it, even though English wasn't her first language. Anyway, I remember We are the Champions used to powerful effect at the end of Mighty Ducks 2, with the champion hockey team of teenagers performing it at a campfire celebration.

Anyway, We Are the Champions endures as the lyrics says, "And we mean to go on and on and on and on." and no doubt it will continue to do so.

Warning: Spoilers
Here we got the music video for the epic Queen song "We Are the Champions" from 1977, so this one that runs for slightly over 3 minutes is already way over 40 years old. You can see by Mercury's looks that it is from their earlier days. No trademark 'stache yet. The director is Derek Burbidge and this is also one of his earlier efforts. He worked a whole lot with Sting's The Police in the decades afterwards, but also with several other really famous bands. Anyway, this one here is a double-edged sword. While it is incredibly catchy and there is some legitimate epicness to the song, there are also flawws and these probably explain why I am "only" giving it 3 stars out of 5. The first would be that the video is not really memorable. It is a concert performance and even if you see Mercury his band members and the audience letting it all loose, there is nothing really memorable to it. It may not be a (much) worse experience if you just listen to the song without the video. Also the song is lyrics-wise really simple unlike many other Queen works that offer significant depth. A bit ironic this is maybe considered their perhaps biggest hit today. More than Bohemian Rhapsody? I am not sure. Maybe their biggest shorter hit with how long BR runs for. But yeah, despite some negative aspects, this song will immediately get you in the groove, so there is absolutely no way I can give this a thumbs-down. I guess everybody knows it anyway, but if you don't then you really need to check it out as soon as possible.
