If only this had been better

Here we have the music video for the song "Only" by Nine Inch Nails and this was released back in 2005, so it is almost 15 years old now, maybe actually more depending on when you read this review. I kinda like NIN, at least other numbers from them, but their song and performance here did very little, not to say nothing, for me. The music video is sligthly better. It takes almost a minute of only 4.5 minutes until Reznor (now an Oscar winner) starts singing and that's a pretty long time admittedly. If the singing had been good at least. Anyway, I mentioned the Oscar before and he got it for a collaboration with David Fincher on the latter's movie, so it is probably not too surprising that Fincher direkted this one here as well if you know a bit about him and that he has really directed tons of music videos. This is probably among his more known efforts. It is more on the style over substance side though too and elaborates on the subject of music coming out of the computer these days, also back in 2005 already apparently as we see Reznor's mechanized face while hearing him perform. And Fincher plays along with many other visual effects. I would say the music video elevates the song, but far from a level where I would recommend checking this one here out. In my opinion, you should skip the watch and listen. Not a piece of art that will get you hooked with Nine Inch Nails.
