Plot Summary

When a collision in space almost destroyed the Russian Mir Space Station, the world held it's breath as NASA astronaut Mike Foale and two Russian cosmonauts fought to stay alive. This is the incredible behind-the-scenes story of the crew of the shuttle Atlantis and their dramatic mission to retrieve Foale and rescue Mir. The most detailed record of any Shuttle mission ever flown, THE REAL STUFF cameras followed the crew of STS-86 throughout a grueling year of training, to the heart-pounding thrill of launch, the 17,500 mph docking with the damaged Mir and their triumphant return to earth. Jim Wetherbee is the most experienced Shuttle Commander in history. His brother Dan is a documentary filmmaker who never lost his fascination for the Space program. Together, these two brothers who have shared a lifelong dream offer you a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity to see spaceflight from a unique perspective---the inside.
