My Rating Scale
chiumt20 April 2019
I don't believe ratings that are 10/10 or 1/10. I do not believe most movies are that perfect or that dismal. This is an acceptable thriller. Some people like it better than others. The mystery is compelling. I want to find out what happened. I wouldn't watch it a second time.

nothing new nor well executed
SnoopyStyle5 November 2017
Jane Sadler (Kyra Sedgwick) is a stressed out Hollywood producer of a cop show which taps into some real police scandals due to her secret police informer. She does drugs in her backyard shed as her daughter Lake goes missing from her room in the night. Initial suspicion falls on her ex-husband Pete Greene. Her sister Ali Petrovich (Erika Christensen) calls the police. Robbery homicide detective John Bird (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) investigates. Jane's assistant Casey (Emily Kinney) is secretly having a fling with Pete and gives him a fake alibi. As the investigation heats up, her two worlds collide. Video evidence captures her drug dealer PJ and then there's her maid.

The pieces of an intriguing missing child story seems to be here. Sedgwick is a first rate actress. It's a compelling enough mystery with many suspects. However, it needs the lead detective to take over the screen. We need to investigate the case along with detective Bird but he's only a co-lead in this show. He's barely moving and we're always ahead of him. The other co-lead Jane is not sympathetic. The only way to salvage that would be sympathy for the kid. We need more of the kid. She has no characteristics, no screen time, and no more than an object or a plot device. It's still a compelling mystery until after several episodes. Then Casey's plan is revealed and I don't understand it. She doesn't want to kill Lake but Lake would be able to identify her and her co-conspirators. The original plan doesn't work on its face value. When the central crime is obvious nonsense, the whole show crumbles. Probably coincidentally, the show loses its spot on the schedule and gets relegated to burn-off. This is nothing new here and not well constructed anyways.

Bad Mother's Daughter is Kidnapped
jumpmuffin4 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
We are introduced to Ms. Sedgewick's character Jane Sadler while she attempts to remember incidents in her traumatic childhood by parents more interested in parties than their children. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree as this first time TV producer, uses Ambien, wine and coke within a couple of hours of putting her daughter to sleep.

When the police arrive and take their time before even looking for the young girl I couldn't help think of Kyra's hit show the Closer. In that Los Angeles, when a child was missing the LAPD declared a Critical Missing, launching the full resources of the LAPD to find them.

Sandler is so concerned for her daughter's safety she lies to police then goes to work. A likable character she is not.

As this is just TV there's no reason to care about the daughter. I will continue to watch to see what a terrible person Sadler turns out to be.

Excellent Mystery
richyoung-2721219 December 2017
I really enjoy this show. It is an excellent mystery with many twists. It is really sad to read negative reviews from people after only 1 or 2 episodes. It's no wonder so many new shows don't survive.Give this show a chance.

Give it a chance!
kmonahan086 November 2017
Compared to everything else that's on TV these days, the show in my opinion is holding its own. There are a lot of twists and turns in the plot. It truly keeps you guessing as to who took Jane's child. It evolves at a nice pace during each episode. The characters evolve as well. So my suggestion is to stay tune and wait for the outcome. You all may be pleasantly surprised. I know I will.

Grows on You

This series increases in suspense and character development with each episode. In spite of varying reviews, I hung in because I love Sedgwick and came to appreciate other characters, like Christianson and Agbaje. It seems fractured and unfocused in the beginning, but morphs into something else altogether. All of a sudden you can't tell who's a good guy and who's a bad guy. If you like suspenseful thrillers, this is a good one.

UGGGH - This is a vanity project for missing in action actress Kyra Sedgwick
Ed-Shullivan2 October 2017
I thought this series was about a missing child but after just watching the pilot episode it will not take you long to see the camera rarely wavers far from Kyra Sedgwick as she portrays a TV crime screen writer named Jane Sadler who is recently divorced, and seems to love her drugs in the form of pills and powder, wine, job, and then time permitting, her daughter in this order.

The series has a decent cast which includes Erika Christensen, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Ali Liebert, Felix Solis and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje but even the cast gets little to no face time with the camera focusing almost all the air time on the (well past done) Kyra Sedgwick. In 2015 Kyra starred in a drama/thriller titled Big Sky that was panned by the critics who stated the film lacked tension.

So what does Kyra do to rebound from her 2015 film stinker? She gets involved in a ten (10) part TV series so that we the audience can feel sorry for a somewhat hard working TV crime screen writer who is hooked on pills, coke, wine and her job until the wee hours of the morning, and neglects her young daughter who goes missing.

I intend to watch the next few episodes but if the camera continues to stay focused on just Kyra Sedgwick as it did in the first episode I will be quickly switching to another channel as I would prefer to watch Kyra in re-runs as Brenda Leigh Johnson in the 2005-2012 Closer.

As for Ten Days in the Valley, so far one day was enough for me. I give it a 4 out of 10 rating.

Web of lies and the entanglement we create
ytsur-6290721 October 2017
After watching the third day and getting drawn in further, I wanted more and looked in IMDb.com to feast on any crumbs of information I can grab. While loving the story so much I am disheartened by the negatives in the reviews. This is an excellent show with depth in the act of child abduction, sexual promiscuity, addictions and the seemingly unimportant lies we tell others and even ourselves. I'm addicted to this show and how each actor acts and reacts to the flow of revelations in the story. This show and multiple plots, ie each characters back story and motivation is captivating, I am drawn in by trying to determine if each individual is acting solely or to the benefit of another, or, being played by another persons ends.

I think the fault of others reviews are caught up in failing to see into the story and viewing superficially at the actor and not the character being portrayed. Show Kyra as much as you want, she is the star, that's how that rolls.

Keep up the good work crew, I'm Your fan...

Plot seems familiar.
sadbint10 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I have a feeling that it's going to turn out that the housekeeper/nanny and the gardener took the girl to stay with them because the mother is a drug addict even though she is a seemingly successful career woman. I'm probably wrong and I actually hope I am and that there is some big plot twist at the end of the show that leaves everyone shocked. I don't know what direction this plot is going in but I hope for the best.

Disappointed!!!!
tee-195038 October 2017
I Think Kyra Sedgwick is a very good actress! I used to watch her in the Closer and thought it was well written as well as the acting. From the very first episode of this series I just knew it was going to be bad! I mean sure she could be a coked out successful writer of a show, but what kind of a mother goes to work the morning after discovering her kid, her ONLY kid no less has been kidnapped???? I don't care if she thinks the father took her or not!! There must have been some powerful stuff in that coke!! I started losing interest after that. Then all the lies that she was getting over on the cops with, just silly! The ONLY reason I am still watching is after "Donovan" and "The Wisdom of the Crowd" (not a bad new show) there isn't anything really on so I DVR it and since it's only 10 weeks WTH. I would never stick to it if it were going to be a regular series. Terrible writing and acting, so if you haven't starting watching, DON'T BOTHER!

Improving with each episode!
ruth4423 December 2017
I love Kyra Sedgwick and was very disappointed with the first episode. Her character is extremely annoying and I can understand the negative reviews. In any case it's 'growing on me' and whilst it's not a great BBC thriller, it's watcheable and there are some good performances. It's a pity that TV productions are judged so quickly in the USA because it doesn't deserve to be cancelled!

Terrible everything !!
bobleb3 October 2017
The previous two reviews were too kind to the program. There is nothing good to be said about it. But I do agree that the obsession with Kyra Sedgwick is a particularly annoying feature (as is she). Another was the switching to scenes from the TV show that is being produced, with very little clarity that the change is happening. I'm not so patient, so it is off my list completely. I simply cannot imagine any change to the program that would make it tolerable.

Sisters?
kabin-882-53487327 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Do not know why some have said this is cancelled. Just watched episode 7 and 8 is scheduled 12/30/17.

I do understand someone going to work - that's what I did when my father died. Keeps the mind occupied.

Don't hate this as much as so many reviewers. Kyra's character is a bit weird, but as series goes on she is clearly driven by the need to get her daughter back, especially since her actions may have contributed to the kidnaping.

But what makes me nuts is the sister. In the midst of a kidnapping she obsesses over Sedgewick having hooked up 9 years ago with the man she would meet and marry 3 years later.

Are real people that self-absorbed during someone else's crisis?

Irony
kblazek-708303 October 2017
I found it very very weird almost premonition like that she was wearing a Tom Petty Shirt and then talking about a "Casino Massacre" as a possible episode subject. The same evening this premieres and there was the Las Vegas Massacre and then the next day Tom Petty passes... So flippin weird!

Loving it
dianeclifford16 October 2017
I'm loving it. (So it takes all kinds, right?) Kyra Sedgewick's found a way to take on a character totally different from her role in the "Closer." And the starring role of Malcolm Jamal Warner delights me. Great to see him doing so well. Witnessing the backstory of behind the scenes infrastructure is always interesting; and accessing the thinking of our police will always shed good light on today's goings-on. Best of all, the plot is interesting.

Quality far below expected
jkemker22 October 2017
The acting is subpar, the editing was not good, the plot accuracy (ie. no one would have done that) was poor. I think the true fault of this fail is the editors. Sad, loved the story, watched it through to the end, but felt like a high school drama production. have to add length to my review for minimum...<3

Gets better as the season goes on
baldguyut22 May 2018
While sometimes hard to watch due to the central character's poor choices, the consequences of those choices are also shown and the series delivers a satisfying plot and ending. The episodes are well written, the twists and turns keep you guessing, and the acting is also exceptional. One of the best network TV shows I have seen. I see that IMDB shows the series rated TV-MA, but it was TV-14 when aired so I'm not sure why there is confusion about the rating.

Another Shocker
jiballini6427 January 2020
Kyra Sedgewick is truly wretched in this. I don't know about the kid being kidnapped but Child Protective Services should have taken it away for Mum being a drugged out, neglectful, self-centred cow. All the acting is pretty dreadful, the script terrible and the whole story implausible. Another piece of rubbish to avoid.

I looked forward to seeing Kyra again and the character seems so uni-dimensional. Lovely little girl kidnapped, mother frantic. What is new? Is it that we attribute the kidnapping to the working woman dedicated to her job? How '60s! Of course the blatant (and ordinary) use of drugs brings it more up to date.

When will we see Kyra again where she can show what a fine actor she is. I keep hoping I will like this show.

What has happened to her hair?

Suspenseful and well acted
Withemcomm24 April 2022
I enjoy Kyra Sedgwick but it's important to know going into this program that her character is very different than Brenda Leigh Johnson in The Closer. This is a dark, gritty crime drama. Yes, a kidnapped child has been done before - but never like this. The characters are flawed, but very dimensional. They have demons which they courageously face as the days unfold. The twists and turns keep coming. It's tough to tell a crime story that is not predictable, with so many years of Law & Order and other detective shows in the rear view mirror. This show delivers in that regard.

The supporting cast is wonderful, with standout performances by Agbaje as the detective, Christensen as the sister and Gurry as the ex. The series is very well written and edited. I would certainly have tuned in for a second season had there been one.

If you can't tolerate programs that make you uncomfortable, if you only enjoy slick dramas with conventional, admirable characters, you probably won't care for "Ten Days in the Valley," but that is no reflection on the caliber of this fine series, it's only a matter of personal preference.

Ten Days in the Valley
gigimeme22 October 2017
We love Kira S, but ARE THEY SERIOUS...ten (days) episodes to find out what happened to the daughter...GET REAL...we're not up for ten weeks of agonizing waiting to find out. Way, way too frustrating! We quit tonight because in 3 weeks they just keep the viewer frustrated wondering what happened to the little girl...ten weeks of that is NOT HAPPENING for us. Bye!!!

Finally got around to it
HumbleMensa29 February 2020
I kept meaning to watch this and wish that I had sooner. I found the movement...flow of this series to be well played and the characters developed quickly along the way. Kyra is good, albeit playing a character I didn't really like but I understood the fit. The plot unfolds over time, but the suspense is actually well done to the point I binged this in three days, which I usually don't find time to do. The story isn't necessarily new, you won't jump out of your skin...it's investigative with twists, but it is good and I won't add spoilers. Is it Emmy award winning, maybe not. Is it worth a view, yes..for sure.

Terrible acting!
adambolton-472913 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The acting in this pilot episode is, simply put, awful! In particular the 'performances' of Kyle Sedgwick and Kick Gurry; in fact, I've seen more convincing performances by my morning stools! It does, however, have potential....just; I will watch the next episode and see if it improves.
