Revolting Rhymes Part One
12 January 2017 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Roald Dahl's collection of six rhymes that twists the classic fairy tales with a rollicking verse and has become a two part animation for the BBC who chopped down the stories to four.

Dominic West plays the wolf telling a babysitter in the cafe the story of Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood, two kindred spirits. Snow White bought flowers from Red Riding Hood for her mother's grave. As she gets older Snow White is banished to the forest when her wicked stepmother is no longer the prettiest around according to the magical mirror.

Red Riding Hood saving her money in the piggy bank turns out to be a sharp shooter who takes on the wolf who ate her grandmother and also later takes on another wolf who has come to rob the piggy bank. She ends up with two wolf skin coats and pig case travelling bag, she heads to the city and finds Snow White who ended up living with seven jockeys cooking and cleaning for them.

Snow White retrieved the magic mirror from the palace and they have all cleaned up at the bookies.

Slightly dark and warped the animation came across a little uninspired and the rhymes came across as a little laboured.
