Never expected to enjoy it but heck I did!!!

Funny enough sometimes with me when it comes to over excessive fan service, I feel like I wanna drop the anime altogether! Whereas this anime, I honestly didn't think I'd enjoy it in all honesty! I suppose both me and the anime are pretty much intertwined lol.

Anyways I suppose it comes down to characters too as well as the story. I really liked the English Dub of the anime, like they picked the best women cast and I like the fact we get to see a bit of masculinity in some of them too. Seriously I would like to see more anime girl characters having a masculinity side as personally, I feel it's pretty slim in the anime world.

If you don't want to see body parts being used as a sport, I wouldn't recommend this anime. Although I thought it was alright because I felt the hype of the anime helped me to enjoy the viewing experience. I'm gonna give this anime a 8/10 ^^

Surprisingly fun fan service heavy sports anime
Tweekums30 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
In the not too distant future the new sport of keijo has become popular in Japan. The sport involves bikini clad women battling to knock each other off floating platforms using only their buttocks and breasts! We are introduced to the world of keijo by following Nozomi Kaminashi, a gymnast who has entered a keijo school. Here she competes with fellow students and makes friends while ultimately progressing to the elite class where she will learn more skills that she will need if she is going to become professional.

In the unlikely case that you are expecting a serious sports anime you will be disappointed; this is all about girls in bikinis fighting in ways that aren't physically possible. Obviously there is a fair amount of fan service but for the most part it doesn't feel too sleazy. This is largely because the characters are likable and even though the way they fight isn't vaguely possible it is entertaining and one can't help supporting our protagonists. As the series continues things get more interesting as they take on a rival school on platforms that have more and more intricate designs. The animation is pretty good and the characters are distinctive. It works largely because it takes its central premise seriously making us believe the characters even during the physics defying fights. Overall I'd say that this was a lot of fun, certainly much better than I expected… admittedly I wasn't expecting much; I'd hoped for 'so bad it is good' but got 'genuinely good'.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

I wasn't expecting much considering what it is but I was mistaken, I found it to be funny and pervy at the same time.

While it was enjoyable, it could have been better

Warning: Spoilers
For the most part, this series was enjoyable, easy to consume and eas generally uplifting and a fun ride, but by the end I personally felt like it wasn't that great of a series and could have been better. It definitely does not deserve a second season, much like Maken-Ki, if I am spelling that correctly.

I would recommend this series if you're feeling down and need to be uplifted, but otherwise if you're feeling good it's really honestly not worth your time.

It's better than you deserve.

On the surface, it's an excuse to see cute girls almost naked. And that's fine for some people I imagine, if that's all they're looking for. You get to pick a girl, buy the body pillow and read the doujinshi.

But it's so much better than that. It's a legitimate sports/shounen anime with legitimate characters, legitimate arcs, and legitimate style. Yes, the eponymous fantasy sport is extremely contrived, no doubt, but each match is handled with such flare and glitz that the laws of physics and reality become a moot point.

The spectacle of the bouts is the show's centerpiece and its most unique strength, and this is accomplished primarily through its design. Everything is exaggerated, from the character's proportions to their specialized fighting styles. Everything is loud, vibrant and colorful, complimenting the over-the-top shounen story line beautifully. It's a show about girls hitting their butts together but it hits the same levels of creativity and intensity in its action as Slam Dunk, One-Piece, and Dragon Ball.

Not even just visually, but sonically it strikes this mark as well. Hits and special moves have such resounding impact because the sound designers matched the crazy animation with even crazier effects. I really have to give this department my admiration because they played this pseudo-comedy so straight, giving it just what it needed.

And that brings me to the other half of the equation, the comedy. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard during fight scenes. The absurdity (or as the show would put it "absurd titty") of it all only heightens as the show progresses. The best decision they ever made was keeping the characters totally unaware of the premise's strangeness, because, as mentioned previously, playing the situation straight is what makes it funny.

I think this is something that needs to be explained, because I could see cause for concern. While the girls themselves aren't aware of their goofiness, they aren't the butt of the joke (pun intended), rather the situation is. You aren't meant to sadistically laugh at these busty broads as they fight each other for your amusement, but instead become invested in their struggles and cheer them on.

What's funny is the show's total absurdity. When a girl's butt is visually represented as a hungry wolf, with barking and all, you aren't laughing at her but the idea of a butt wolf spirit. In fact, though the characters are fairly flat, their earnestness and idiosyncrasies are extremely endearing.

is it "fan service?" Well, duh. Butt isn't the point, it's just the means to entertain and subvert expectations. Similar to a John Waters film, so many people get stuck on the most eye-catching aspects that they never look at what it really is.

Laughably Bad
jebtyms24 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Keijo is nothing but a show that is only good because of how bad it is. Keijo forgets that even fan service type anime must have a good plot and decent characters that are in fact recognizable from one another in not only personality but character design. The girls all look the same in shape and especially the face, all they did was swap out bust sizes and hairdos. Keijo lacks substantial plot to keep one interested, and while some anime fans may go so far as to say that that's due to the type of anime it is (fan service Esq) I argue against that by pointing out great animes of the same genre such as Prison School and Monster Musume. I will say that it is laughable in how bad it is, and for that reason I watched it until the end. I recommend it as a show to watch if you're into laughing out loud at ridiculousness, which my husband and I do, which is why it gets a three instead of a zero.

Hip Whip Girl: Keijo!!!!!! - Different but Fun
Cafelar12 January 2020
Initially looking like an anime designed to show breasts and buttocks as an excuse for a sport, it turns out to be quite entertaining and with interesting questions about effort and perseverance. They do not become anything very serious, but deliver good disputes of a different sport.
