I have loved history all of my life, but I realize how much of the history I was taught has left out the indigenous people involved in these life-changing events. It is mortifying to me to learn the sacrifices that were made throughout Guam's history and the loss of life and land these people have suffered and continue to suffer. This is true throughout the world as land and resources are desired above the needs of the indigenous peoples. I am eternally grateful to those who fought our wars, but wish we repaid those who suffered so much. I knew of George Tweed, but not the whole story. Thank you to the Chamorro people and Father Duenas for the ultimate sacrifices they made. It is time to teach a complete history and shine a light on what the Chamorro people did, at great cost to them.
