Father Brown is summoned by prisoner Katherine Corven, convicted of killing her husband, who admits that she is planning to murder her lover Raymond Worrall. However he is unable to tell anybody because of the seal of the confession. Thus, when Raymond is found shot dead after a visit from Father Brown the priest is arrested by a gleeful Mallory. Mrs McCarthy and Bunty turn sleuth and, helped by kindly local copper Sergeant Goodfellow, take part in a subtle jail break to establish who was trying to frame Father Brown. Written by

Did You Know?
The jackdaw is mentioned as the type of egg found by Father Brown and in the story he tells about "The Eagle and the Daw" whence this episode derives its title. The surname of the antagonist in this episode is Corven. The Latin name for the jackdaw is "Corvus monedula". This may be an inside joke perpetrated by the writers. See more
