Not content with its enviable track record producing 600 quality lesbian features, Girlfriends Films has expanded in recent years to distributing other product, including boy/girl and transsexual videos from other producers, as well as out-sourcing dozens of titles to one camera lady Tammy Sands. This first volume of a random Sands series is poorly made, boring and pointless.
Though the Girlfriends label is affixed, I don't count Tammy's videos as part of the family. That's because she resembles the pioneers of old, say Suze Randall or Bunny Yeager, in photographing beautiful women but not qualifying as a movie-maker. So Tammy has rounded up top talent for her vignettes here, and they just fumble around, making Sapphic love, and creating about as much interest as a night light.
Opening segment is a case in point: Cherie DeVille and two young things romp together on a bed, all wearing knee sox (Cherie is a bit old for such childishness). They giggle and paw each other, while Tammy's camera-work and editing are terrible. She stresses an aloof master shot throughout, while randomly shock-cutting to extreme gynecological close-ups. This contrasts with the effortless, invisible reverse-shot editing style of a typical Girlfriends film, and is jarring to watch.
Some terrific stars appear in other segments, including Riley Reid and one of the brightest new talents Eva Lovia, but they're wasted. As a sop to Girlfriends' tradition of spotlighting big-breasted women, Chanel Preston goes up against Destiny Dixon, but it is an off-day for both of them.
Fortunately Tammy does not include her usual allotment of deadly solo segments, a throwback not merely to Yeager's '60s work but reminiscent of ancient peep-show loops.
Before I wised up, I bought a handful of follow-up Sands videos, so I'll be watching them and filing reviews on some particularly slow day in future. It's hard to be filled with anticipation about her generic stuff.
