HIAC bonanza
gridoon20247 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This 2016 PPV was technically a breakthrough for the WWE women's division: for the first time two women battled in a Hell In A Cell match, and also for the first time a women's match was a PPV main event. The contestants were Charlotte (Flair) and Sasha Banks, and the event was held in Sasha's hometown, in Boston, where she is very popular. The two women fought hard (for the Women's Championship) and their match was the equal of the two preceding HIAC matches held the same night between men (Rusev vs. Roman Reigns for the US title and Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins for the universal WWE title). When I say "equal", it's both good and bad news: there is not much wrestling involved in any of the three HIAC matches, but there is certainly a lot of punishment given and taken, as weapons like steel chairs, steel steps, kendo sticks and chains are used and bodies are powerbombed through tables. With so many HIAC matches, it should come as no surprise that not much attention was given to the undercard; the best of the rest is probably Brian Kendrick vs. T.J.Perkins for the Cruiserweight Championship - it certainly displays the most agile wrestling of the night. **1/2 out of 4.
