Woodhouse's grave stone shows he has earned at least four military honours during his service in the British Armed Forces. These include the Distinguished Service Order (duo), the Distinguished Service Cross (dsc), the Military Cross, and the Victoria Cross, the last of which is the highest award possible in the British honours system. He also has a Knighthood, being a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath.
The set-up for this season is very similar to Life on Mars (2006) which featured a modern day police detective in a coma who finds himself living in 1973.
When Archer and "Mother" are talking in her office, her dialogue about his military awards and rank is almost word-for-word what the Captain (Strother Martin) said when he first met Lucas Jackson (Paul Newman) in Cool Hand Luke (1967).
The painting in Mother's office resembles Mallory's old dog, Duchess.
'Mother' lights her cigarette with a Ronson Touch Tip Lighter, the same style that was used in the film noir classic The Maltese Falcon (1941).
