Can Kingsman 2 or Ninjago Take Down It at the Box Office?

19 September 2017 10:00 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

While the It had no trouble repeating atop the box office for a second straight frame in a row last weekend, it doesn't seem that it will be going for a three-peat, with three new movies vying for the crown in wide release, 20th Century Fox's action-packed sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Warner Bros.' Lego Movie spin-off The Lego Ninjago Movie and Entertainment Studios' horror-thriller Friend Request. While it very well could be a close race, we're predicting that Ninjago will come out on top with $55.6 million, while Kingsman 2 will follow just behind with $52.4 million.

Box Office Mojo reports that both Kingsman 2 and Ninjago will be released in roughly 3,900 theaters, with Friend Request opening in roughly 3,000 theaters. All of those movies will still fall short of the 4,138 theaters that the blockbuster It remake was playing in last weekend, but after a record-breaking opening weekend, and a normal second-weekend drop, »

18 September 2017 6:27 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Bill O’Reilly said he’s never crossed paths with Jon Hamm — but he’d be happy to get lunch on him.

In a recent New York Times profile piece on Hamm, the actor claimed he ran into Donald Trump and O’Reilly during a Saturday Night Live afterparty during the presidential campaign.

“He was with Bill O’Reilly,” the Mad Men star said. “They’re both tall dudes. And I’m a tall dude. And they both do that tall-dude thing, which is try to intimidate you. And it doesn’t work on me. I’m like, ‘I’m as alpha as you. »

Box Office Weekend: It Holds Top Spot

17 September 2017 6:54 PM, PDT | CinemaNerdz | See recent CinemaNerdz news »

The horror film It topped the box office again this week with $60 million. The two-week total for the film fell just short of $220 million but has established the Stephen King adaptation as the highest grossing September release of all time. In a distant second-place was American Assassin with $14.8 million in its first week of release.

Darren Aronofsky’s mother! finished in third with $7.5 million in its initial week of release and has apparently not been winning audiences over despite the presence of star Jennifer Lawrence. Meanwhile, the Reese Witherspoon comedy Home Again brought in $5.3 million to bring its two-week total to $17.1, which was good enough to hold fourth place this week. The Hitman’s Bodyguard brought its five-week total to $70.4 million with $3.6 million this weekend, which held fifth place for it.

The successful six-week run for Annabelle: Creation continued as the horror film took in $2.6 million to raise its total »

17 September 2017 5:18 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Reese Witherspoon‘s been a red carpet regular and topped the best dressed lists at the Golden Globes, SAGs and Oscars for years, but the 41-year-old actress has never stepped foot on the Emmys red carpet until now.

The star, who’s nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her portrayal as Madeline in HBO’s hit miniseries Big Little Lies, debuted on the Emmys red carpet tonight opting for an teal blazer mini dress (with a sheer lace bra peeking out from beneath) instead of a floor-length gown, with matching velvet pointed toe pumps, »

Box Office Roundup: ‘It’ Tops the Box Office For Second Weekend

17 September 2017 2:48 PM, PDT | Age of the Nerd | See recent Age of the Nerd news »

It continues to crush the box office competition, winning the box office for the second straight week.  It brought in an additional $60 million this weekend, bringing the films estimated domestic total to just over $218 million.  With excellent business overseas, It has brought an international cume of just over $152 for a worldwide total of $370 million.  It’s been an impressive start for It, and it should be interesting to see how It performs in its third weekend with the release of both The Lego Ninjango Movie and Kingsman The Golden Circle.

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, American Assassin finished second this weekend, opening with a solid $14.8 million.  The Michael Keaton led Assassin was not only able to top the film which sits in the third spot, but almost double its opening weekend box office.

The movie that sits number 3 is Darren Aronofsky’s Mother!, which opened with a disappointing $7.5 million. »

‘It’ Lives Again, ‘mother!’ Dies at Box Office

17 September 2017 12:26 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Stephen King’s mighty “It” is single-handedly reviving box office totals after a bleak late summer. It is rare for the second weekend of a hit film to provide the majority of the gross for the time period, but that’s what Warner Bros. achieved on the horror flick’s second weekend. While not as dominant as it was in its September record initial three days, $60 million represented barely more than a 50 per cent drop. Not bad.

With almost $219 million in the till so far and a strong hold, forget $300 million as an ultimate domestic total — $350 million now looks possible. “It” is already the third-biggest modern-day September release ever after only ten days. It will soar past “Rush Hour” by next weekend, and end up almost certain behind “Crocodile Dundee” (adjusted to current ticket prices, at about $410 million) as best for the month in the era of wide initial releases. »

'It' Remains #1 with $60M Second Weekend, Floating to September Record

17 September 2017 9:22 AM, PDT | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

After just eight days in release, WB and New Line's It became the highest grossing September release of all-time, two days later it added another $40 million to that total for an impressive $60 million second weekend and nearly $220 million in just ten days. The horror film's performance vastly overshadowed the weekend's two new wide releases that saw Lionsgate and CBS Films's American Assassin deliver respectable results in second place while Paramount's release of Darren Aronofsky's mother! suffered greatly, finishing in third and receiving a disastrous "F" CinemaScore from opening day audiences. With an estimated $60 million this weekend, WB and New Line's It brought its domestic cume to $218.7 million after just ten days in release. As already mentioned, that makes it the largest September release ever, topping 1986's Crocodile Dundee ($174.8m). That number, of course, is not adjusted for inflation. Adjusted for inflation, however, It still finishes within the top »

Reese Witherspoon is a busy woman. Besides being Emmy-nominated as an actress and executive producer for “Big Little Lies,” her movie “Home Again” was recently released in theaters, with “A Wrinkle in Time” on the horizon for 2018. Not to mention she and former TV sister Jennifer Aniston are returning to the small screen in a project the two are co-producing and starring in together. Behind the screen, her newly-created production company Hello Sunshine is keeping pace with popular new, female-centric book releases by optioning them for film and TV. Under her previous production company, Pacific Standard, she successfully adapted “Wild” in 2014, which earned her an Oscar nomination, and produced the critically-acclaimed “Gone Girl” the same year. Donald Trump, Long Before He Was President, Would Only Do 'Complimentary' Sketches on SNL, Jon Rudnitsky Says

Nowadays, the only Donald Trump that matters on Saturday Night Live is Alec Baldwin. But before he was elected, Trump hosted the NBC sketch comedy show twice: once in 2004, and once in November 2015 as a presidential candidate.

People Now recently caught up with Home Again star and former SNL cast member Jon Rudnitsky, and the actor opened up about how Trump fared as a guest host.

“He had trouble with the sketches, and if a sketch wasn’t complimentary about him — mainly physically — he wasn’t into it,” said Rudnitsky, 27. “He’d go, ‘It’s cute, but no — next.’ ”

You Can Decorate Your House Just Like Reese Witherspoon’s in Home Again — Here's How

15 September 2017 9:47 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

If there’s one thing you know to expect in every Nancy Meyers film, it’s that the heroine always lives in an impeccably decorated home (see Diane Keaton’s Hamptons house in Something’s Gotta Give or Meryl Streep’s Santa Barbara abode in It’s Complicated for further proof). And it seems like that stylish decor sense runs in the family if her daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer’s new film, Home Again—which Meyers is a producer on—is any indication.

Friday Am Update: Lionsgate's release of CBS Films' American Assassin brought in $915,000 from Thursday night previews in 2,400 locations beginning at 7Pm. This compares favorably to John Wick, which kicked off its run to a $14.4 million opening with $870k from Thursday screenings. Paramount's mother! delivered $700k from Thursday previews beginning at 7Pm in ~2,000 locations, which is behind the $855k for Crimson Peak, which we used as one of our comps in our weekend preview below. It is, however, an improvement on the $520k Nightcrawler brought in before it opened with $10.4 million back in October 2014. We'll take a closer look at things tomorrow morning once Friday estimates come in. For now you can check out our weekend preview below.Weekend Preview: Following a record breaking opening last weekend, WB and New Line's It will reign supreme once again this weekend, pushing the horror film's domestic gross near record heights after just ten days of release. »

Reese Witherspoon Isn't Sure Big Little Lies Season 2 Will Happen, But Her New Jennifer Aniston TV Show Will Be 'Great'

In just seven episodes, Big Little Lies captivated viewers by intertwining a dark murder mystery plot with poignant commentary on the complexities of family life — so it’s not too surprising that fans are clamoring for a season 2 of the HBO series.

That being said, so far, it doesn’t seem likely, at least not anytime soon. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday, star and executive producer Reese Witherspoon was asked what she could tease about a potential new season — and she didn’t sound all too hopeful.
