After the ex-Stasi spy Anne Marie Fuchs and the import and export trader Youssef El Kilali successfully solved their first joint case using unorthodox methods, Youssef sees himself as an aspiring Sherlock Holmes. Without Anne's knowledge, he quickly had business cards printed for the young detective agency "Fuchs and El Kilali" and diligently distributed them to his customers. Not without success, because he actually pulls a potential client ashore - much to the astonishment of the completely unsuspecting Anne, who considers the investigator startup to be a crazy idea and initially refuses to give him any support. It doesn't take long, however, for Youssef to be up to his neck in trouble, because on his arrival he finds his client, Astrid Altmann, dead in her house, which attracts Commissioner Eisner and almost results in his arrest. No question about it, Anne has to help him out of a tight spot, because Youssef will not be able to solve the case alone, nor will he be able to pull his head out of the loop. In addition, working with Youssef is a welcome change for Anne from the gloomy thoughts about her espionage past and the loss of her child. The dead was an active opponent of the lignite opencast mine, to which her hometown Ekenbach will soon fall victim. Ironically, the daughter of the murder victim, Katja Mehring, works for Westdeutsche Kohlen AG, which operates the opencast mine and the associated resettlement of Ekenbach. Mayor Röpers, Astrid Altmann's boss, is also shaken. Who would be interested in Astrid Altmann's death and, above all, why did she want to hire a private detective agency? In order to find out, the daughter of the dead Anne and Youssef commissioned to investigate the matter. When Katja Mehring's husband, the operator of the local gravel pit, was killed shortly afterwards, the situation came to a head. Using highly creative, albeit mostly illegal, methods, the "Füchsin" and Youssef find out that Carsten Mehring has bought land in Ekenbach on a large scale on behalf of a Luxembourg real estate company. But why should anyone invest money in a place that will soon be razed to the ground? In the course of their investigations, in which Youssef is taken by surprise time and again by Anne's approach, the two get caught in the crosshairs of a number of powerful men who want to get rid of the "snoopers" - a life-threatening situation for Anne and Youssef .
