Worst movie ever

I have seen a lot of bad lesbian movies, but this one takes the cake! Oddly enough the actress were great, the story line...was just awful. I'm shocked they made this movie.

total amateurville

I felt so sorry for the lead actresses in this amateur attempt at film making and storytelling. The cast somehow dealt with the stultifyingly awful dialogue and ludicrous script. From the failed attempts at recreating period costumes to the textureless cinematography and the droning soundtrack, everything about this film is abysmal. The lead actress courageously held it together through the most far-fetched plot twists and absurd character developments. Somehow in a 1950s Christian community, all the women with the exception of her totally bonkers mother, turn out to be lesbians. Probably the worst movie I've ever seen.

What an Ending!

Impressed that an indy period piece was pulled off on this scale with such a small budget. To me, the best part was the acting. Great performance by the lead. Overall, thought provoking, honest, and real.

wonderful

It's highly likely that some people find the plot and certain situations too ridiculous, perceiving them as exaggerated. However, many lesbians and gay individuals, including myself, grew up in similar or even worse conditions. Growing up in extremely religious and conservative environments as a lesbian is devastating, suffocating, depressing, and entirely oppressive. That's precisely why, and because i resonated with the main character, i enjoyed watching it. The plot is excellent and unfolds naturally, with surprising elements that keep you engaged. There are revealing insights into the modus operandi of sects and cults, fraudulent and repressed leaders, indoctrination, conversion therapy and control. The performances are exceptional. If you are a lesbian who grew up in a religious environment, you will undoubtedly appreciate this movie.

One thing worth mentioning, and the reason i don't give this movie 10 stars, is that the audio quality was low. There's a strange sound and some background noise during the dialogues, but it's understandable given the budget.

Leave it to Beaver meets The Grapes of Wrath.

Warning: Spoilers
The IMDB description of the movie is good without spoiling it. Set in the bible belt of a post WWII suburbia. The characters live in a blissful, ignorance mixed with delusion and self-righteousness. The medico- religious group the lead actress gets involved with attempt to cure her mental problem with medicine and prayer.

Everyone has secrets and their own secret agenda / demons. Save for the background characters that are barely more than animated mannequins. Subtlety is used very well, reminds me of the movie Galveston. ---things said without being said. Has a few surprises as well as plot holes. Entertaining overall and leaves the viewer guessing..

Heartbreakingly realistic
brileyb-9468431 January 2024
This is a period movie, but it could easily be set today anywhere fundamentalist hate is more powerful than God's love. This story line hits all true notes for anyone who grew up in the kind of performative, judgmental religion that is more about fervor than faith. Great acting, particularly by the lead, Stefanie Estes.

It has to be difficult for anyone who didn't live this repression and condemnation first hand to understand how closely this script portrays the real experiences of those who did. Contrary to a previous review, it is not at all exaggerated or unrealistic. In fact, A Sweetest Kiss is so real it makes every cell in my body ache.
