Most of the key crew members were full-time film students at the time of production.
The Next Door is told from the perspective of a Mormon missionary. The director came up with the story idea while he himself was serving a mission for the Mormon church, and first connected with several of the collaborators during his missionary service.
The Next Door was filmed in only four days, with one half pickup day after the original chase scene was scrapped.
Writer Jarom McDonald and Writer/Director Barrett Burgin are 2nd cousins.
The majority of the film was shot in Provo, UT. Two of the film's locations, the Safe House and the Motel, were demolished shortly after filming ended.
