Just too awful to even watch
Siddhartha147 June 2017
This is some of the worst acting I've ever seen. I could not even stomach more than 15 minutes of this ridiculous series. Don't bother with this one! By the way, IMDb! Stop requiring people to type five lines of text for a review. You are asking me to type more than the series even deserves for a review. One word really sums it up. HORRID!

Desperate Housewives this is not!

Firstly, it has this irritating background music all through it. Secondly, the acting is absolutely terrible. Thirdly, thankfully, they only made 4 episodes at 25 minutes each! Fourthly, how did this get a 2018 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Digital Daytime Drama???? Do not be drawn in by the Emmy this is Daytime Drama at its worst!

Was this written by a third grader?

Horrible writing. Horrible acting. Nothing about any lake. The men treat their woman horribly and act like it's normal. I feel like the production company of this show owes me money for the waste of time watching it.

Curious about what crap looks like? This is PURE crap.
whatithinkis22 June 2017
I wasn't going to bother with a review BUT the fact that there's only one other negative review for this total piece of crap is annoying.

I mean this has HORRIBLE acting.

Want to observe awful writing? Here it is.

Directing. WAS there even?

The sound is oddly amateurish.

Low, low, LOW production values.

This is PURE crap. So if you are curious . . . about crap, dive right in and immerse yourself. It doesn't get much purer than this.

So bad it's laughable

OMG this is one of the worst shows I've ever seen! I think it is supposed to be bad--bad actors (never heard of any of them), bad clothes, bad storyline (actually there was NO storyline), the "sound" (I won't dignify it by calling it music)--everything was so bad and so annoying that I think it's a spoof show. It surely can't be for real. That's ten minutes of my life I'll never get back.

An incredibly fun trip into the lives of Avalon's wealthy and powerful!

I have finished watching all 4 episodes and WOW!!! What an incredible mini-series! Devious, delicious soapy fun that has an over the top plot but still taps into human emotions making it relatable and the ladies root-able! All accomplished while looking gorgeous, the cast, the sets and the cinematography! Brilliantly written and the acting is top notch, the entire cast shines in their performances!!! Definitely a great guilty pleasure binge and with the final cliffhangers I would love to see a Season 2!!!! Congrats to all involved on putting together such a great series!!!

Another it from web-series wizard, Michael Caruso
eggheadnurse20 June 2017
From Michael Caruso, writer/producer of Emmy nominated web-series DeVanity and Witherthorne, comes another decadent and sumptuous mini-series to thrill fans of the prime-time soap genre.

Based on the hit book of the same name by daytime soap producer Ken Corday (Days of Our Lives) Ladies of the Lake Michael Caruso has created another hit for the decades.

Ladies of the Lake tells the story of the rich and powerful women of Avalon, a gated community on the West Coast, as they show their strength of will over the men in their life. Over four episodes we get to know the 'Ladies' as their stories intertwine and secrets are revealed.

Once again Caruso brings together a plethora of daytime soap stars from everyone's favourite sudsy serials (including Martha Madison, Lily Melgar, Marie Wilson, Arianne Zucker, Patrika Darbo, Kyle Lowder, Gordon Thomson, Wally Kurth and Ian Buchanan) and utilises them to their potential that writers of daytime often fail to do.

As with all of Michael's work the cinematography and direction (Rodolphe Portier and Sonia Blandigaro) is up there with the most lavish prime-time series (for a fraction of the budget).

A big shout out must also go out for Jillian Clare who is truly captivating as Cassidy Montgomery.

Here's looking forward to seeing more of the Ladies in the future.

Low Budget, Horrible Acting
NicoletteSteele5 May 2018
The set and setting don't match the storyline. This is supposed to be set in "the most exclusive development in Southern California" yet it's shot in a "normal" size home with a small pool. The makeup is atrocious, the lighting harsh, title credits were high schoolish....but I could have gotten past all of that if the acting was any good. These are seasoned actors. At least most of them are. The dialogue was so forced and choppy I seriously wondered if they were all handed the script an hour before shooting. Ari Zucker was the only performance worth watching.
