- Steven Benedict, a white man on trial for shooting a black man who he thought was a mugger, is brought to the hospital. While there, the black members of the staff (except Paul) presumed him to be guilty. Neighborhood tensions over the case escalate into a riot. During the melee, a cop is shot badly, according to his patrol partner, by a black teenager, whom she shoots as badly. The teen is later revealed to be a neighborhood delivery person named Sean who just happened to be working when the riot started.
