Wonderful visuals, lovely story and sincere performances
27 September 2016 | by See all my reviews

What struck me the most about the movie are the very beautiful visuals. The locations are breathtaking and also each scene, even a village or pond, is captured aesthetically. The next is the story which is also laced with positivity and hope, and treated very well by the director Sidharth Siva. The performances are first rate, especially from the lead kid actor Rudraksh Sudheesh as Ayyappa Das. The friendship shown between him & a girl Ambili is adorable. Kunchako Boban(also the producer) as Ayyappa's mentor also delivers a very sincere performance. I must also mention the kid who acted as Ayyappa Das's elder brother, he's a natural! Wish he gets good roles in more movies. The songs are also pleasant to hear.

Although the movie impresses with the feel good story, I personally have a difference of opinion in how it turns towards the end. The boy Ayyappa who has a strong desire to achieve a particular goal has a change of thought when he sees his best friend in danger. He then realises how much he also values their friendship. I wanted the movie to throw more attention to that transformation the boy undergoes especially because that experience teaches the boy how important relationships can be or how life is much more than dreams or goals but anyway it's my opinion only. But what I did find as a flaw was Sooraj Venjaramood's character who's an alcoholic. Although it's only a character, the alcoholism portrayed could have been toned down a bit since this is a kids or a family movie.

So I rate this movie a 8/10. I also think the movie makers should send writer Paulo Coelho(who's novels & words are highlighted many times in the story) a DVD of the movie with English subtitles. I'm sure he'll love it!
